1. You will receive an invitation via email

  • You will receive a message from your employer to your work email containing an invitation to start using HSL Business Travel. ​
  • The message includes a confirmation code for activating the service. You need to enter the confirmation code only if you activate the service using a different email address than the one to which the invitation was sent.
  • The message includes the date on which the period of validity for the commuter benefit begins.
  • You will receive the message even if your benefit enters into force at a later date. 
  • Click on ”Start using HSL Business Travel” in order to activate the service.

2. You’ll see the first instructions page

Click on ”Continue to log in” in order to open the login screen.

3. Log in using your HSL account

If you already have an HSL account, log in. 

If you have forgotten the password for your HSL account, do not create a new account! Request a link to reset your password on hsl.fi or via the HSL app: 

  1. On hsl.fi, click on the person icon in the upper right hand corner and select -> “Forgot your password?”
  2. On the HSL app, go to “More” -> “Settings” -> “Log in using your HSL account” -> “Forgot your password?” 

If you do not yet have an HSL account, click on "Create an account".

4. Enter the confirmation code

Once you have logged in using your HSL account or created an account, you will be prompted to enter the confirmation code and the email address to which the code was sent. You will not be prompted to enter the confirmation code if

  • the email address connected to your HSL account is the one to which the invitation was sent
  • you have recently authenticated strongly with your HSL account.

5. All set! The benefit has now been activated

You can now start using the amount issued to you by your employer to purchase tickets on the HSL app.

6. Purchase tickets on the HSL app

You can now use the amount issued to you by your employer to purchase tickets on the HSL app.

When you proceed to purchase a ticket, you will receive a notification stating that you have been provided with an amount for work-related travelling. If you don't get the notification, make sure that you are using the latest version of the app.

Proceed to purchase a ticket as you normally would. Select “HSL Business Travel” as the payment method. When buying the ticket, write the reason for or some other description of the journey in the field “Description” in accordance with the instructions your employer has provided. Once you have purchased the ticket, the price of the ticket will be deducted from the amount issued to you.

You can buy any kinds of tickets as long as the amount you have in your use covers the price of the ticket and the benefit is valid. You can buy season tickets only if your home municipality is within the HSL area or in one of the neighboring municipalities. When buying tickets with HSL Business Travel, please remember to follow the practices agreed with your employer.

The remaining amount is always shown along with the payment method on the HSL app.  You can also view information on your commuter benefit in the “My information” section on hsl.fi.
