City bike season to start in Helsinki and Espoo earlier than last year

This year, the city bike season will start in Helsinki and Espoo earlier than last year. You will be able to buy season passes on the city bike website from Thursday 19 March and the bikes will be available from Monday 23 March. However, all stations will not be in use from 23 March.

You can check station statuses and the availability of bikes in the Journey Planner or on the map available on the city bike website. Click to access the station map

The early opening of the season is due to the coronavirus outbreak. The City of Helsinki, HKL and the City of Espoo decided to bring forward the opening of the city bike season because the use of the bikes could provide one way to mitigate the spread of the virus.

This year, there will be 242 bike stations in Helsinki and 109 stations in Espoo. There will be in total 351 stations and some 3,500 bikes.

During the season, you can view the station locations and bike availability in the Journey Planner, where you can also search for cycling routes. You can also check the station locations on this map.

Some stations are relocated due to construction. Check the locations of the relocated stations

Filing error reports made easier

In Vantaa, the city bike season will start on 1 April. The Vantaa service is not integrated with the service in Helsinki and Espoo. If you want to ride in Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa, you need to buy separate passes for the two services. All in all, there will 100 bike stations and 1,000 bikes in Vantaa. A couple of new stations will be introduced during the season. Click the link to learn more about the service in Vantaa

Prices are the same in Espoo, Helsinki and Vantaa: a pass for the whole season costs 30 euros. A day pass costs five euros and a weekly pass ten euros. All passes allow unlimited up to 30-minute bike rides during their validity and you can ride longer for an extra charge. A pass for the whole season will be valid until the end of October.

If you are a former customer, you can renew your season pass with just a few clicks. Log in to your personal city bike page and check that your payment card details are correct.

To improve the service, filing error reports has been made easier. You can file an error report on your personal city bike page in the ride history. The station and bike details will be automatically added in the report. You can log in to your personal city bike page using your HSL account. You can also file an error report without logging in but you must enter the name of the station or bike number yourself.
