Higher frequency Metro service tested on 30 August

On Thursday 30 August, an operating model will be tested in the morning and evening peak (about 7am-9.30am and 2.30pm-6.30pm) in which every other Metro train usually turning around at Tapiola will continue to Matinkylä.

Three out of four Metro trains will continue to the west of Tapiola, where headways will vary between 2.5 and 5 minutes. There will be six more trains running to Matinkylä per hour than usual.

The aim is to obtain information about operating a more frequent service to determine whether it would be possible to increase services from Matinkylä. Higher frequency services are be more susceptible to disruptions because there is less time for turning around.

HSL and HKL tested higher frequency service to Matinkylä in May. No decision has been made on switching to higher frequency services.
