HSL and HKL are testing higher frequency metro services to Matinkylä in November/December

The metro operates a more frequent service to Matinkylä at peak times from Monday 11 November to 13 December. Three out of four trains operate to Matinkylä Monday-Friday about 7am-9.30am and 2.30pm to 6.30pm. Usually every other train runs to Tapiola, every other to Matinkylä.

During the trial period, the metro operates to Matinkylä with alternating headways of 2.5 and 5 minutes at peak times.

Previously HSL and HKL have tested higher frequency metro services to Matinkylä on individual test run days. The aim of this longer trial is to obtain more experience of operating the services at shorter headways.

Another objective is to study how the operating model works and how vulnerable it is to disruptions. In addition, HSL and HKL want to study changes in passenger numbers as well as how passengers are split between services, in particular between Tapiola and Matinkylä.

HSL’s operational and financial plan 2020–2022 includes provisions for an increase in metro services from Matinkylä at peak times.
