Beta version of HSL card online top up will be launched on 8 June

We will launch online top up of HSL cards on Monday 8 June. You can use the service to top up your HSL card with season tickets and value. Tickets purchased online will be transferred to your HSL card when you show the card to a card reader. In addition, you can set up email reminders to notify you when you need to renew your season ticket or the value balance is running low. All your card transactions will be listed in the service. If you lose your card, you can close is via the service.

A beta version (i.e. a test version) of the HSL card service will be released on 8 June. We have been testing the HSL card online top up with a small group of people since March. Because of the exceptional circumstances, the test users have needed to buy tickets less often than usual. We will now open the beta version for all users and will continue to collect feedback and develop the service together with customers.

During the tests, faulty error messages have been reported to occur in about one percent of purchase transactions. This means that a card reader displays a faulty error message when you show your card to the reader to transfer a season ticket or value purchased via the HSL card service to your card. In fact, the season ticket or value has been transferred to the card and you will be able to use the ticket/value for paying for your journeys as usual.

In other words, the service works faultlessly in almost all cases. We want to make the service available for a larger number of users to respond to the increased demand for a new digital sales channel allowing customers to top up their HSL cards using their phones or a computer.

The online top up will open on Monday 8 June. You can already use the HSL card service (hsl.fi/kortti) to check your HSL card’s value balance and the validity period of your season ticket, as well as to set up season ticket or value reminders.

Tips for using the HSL card service

Range of tickets

You can buy season tickets and value to your HSL card regardless of your customer group. There are adult, child and discount tickets.

  • You can buy season tickets for 30, 60, 90 or 360 days. You can set the ticket validity to start immediately or within 60 days from the moment of purchase.
  • The amount of value can be between 5 and 400 euros.

Transfer the ticket to your card at a card reader

You need to transfer the season ticket and value purchased via the service onto your HSL card at a card reader before you can use them. Show your card to a card reader on a bus, commuter train or tram, or at a Metro station. You can also transfer the ticket to your card at a ticket machine.

Keep your card at the card reader long enough. The card reader will notify you when the transfer is complete. Data transfer in the back-end systems takes some time but the season ticket and value will b be ready for transfer at a card reader within 60 minutes from the moment of purchase.

In the HSL card service, you can pay

  • by payment card (VISA, VISA Electron, Mastercard, American Express). You can use either debit or credit card.
  • using MobilePay,
  • or online banking.

Edenred is the only employee benefit card accepted at the moment.
