West Metro changes bus route network - HSL surveys residents' travel habits

HSL will start the planning of the West Metro feeder route
network in summer 2013. Before starting the planning, HSL will
collect initial data. HSL conducts an online map-based survey to
study residents’ travel habits.

The aim of the survey is to collect information about
journeys originating or terminating in southern Espoo or
Lauttasaari, and to find new ideas to support the planning. The
survey runs until 16 June.

Also, HSL has opened a blog for the West Metro feeder route
network plan, where people can follow the planning process, comment
on the proposals made and tell their own opinions. The blog is in
Finnish but comments are welcome also in English.

Increasing number of journeys made by rail

The West Metro will start to run to Matinkylä at the beginning
of 2016. In the route network plan, bus services are adapted to the
situation where an increasing number of journeys both within Espoo
and between Espoo and Helsinki are made by rail.

In southern Espoo and Lauttasaari, bus services will be mainly
feeder services to rail stations. The key feeder terminals will be
constructed in Tapiola and Matinkylä. Regional bus routes currently
running along Länsiväylä to Kamppi will be withdrawn.

The reorganization of bus routes will affect also bus services
running via Lehtisaari and Kuusisaari, as well Veräjälaakso,
Länsi-Pakila and Maunula. Also, the plan will include services
operating outside the Metro operating hours.

A draft route network plan will be completed at the end of 2013.
Residents will then be able to comment on the draft, for example,
online. The plan will be completed in early 2014.
