Bus service contracts for Kerava awarded

Route kilometers of the routes amount to 1.6 million a year and 16 vehicles are needed to operate the services on weekdays. The contract term is 5 years with an option to extend for up to 3 years. Six operators submitted in total six bids.

As of August, bus services in Kerava will be organized using a new contract model in which the operator plans the timetables according to routes and service level guidelines determined by HSL. The new contract model encourages operators to provide as high quality of service as possible in an efficient way. The operator compensation paid by HSL will increase after the first year of the contract if passenger numbers increase.

Thanks to the new contracts, 11 new low-floor vehicles will enter into service in Kerava at the beginning of 2015. All new buses will be E6 compliant with significantly lower local emissions than the current buses.

All new buses will be equipped with air conditioning, ignition interlocks, automatic fire extinguishing system and driving style monitoring system. Camera surveillance improves the safety of drivers and passengers.  In addition, the buses will be equipped with an ESP (Electronic Stabilization Program).
