Introduction of the new zone E
HSL will introduce zone E on 2 June 2026. With the introduction of the new zone, HSL’s range of tickets will be expanded to include tickets covering zone E.
At the same time, single-zone tickets covering only zone D will be removed from sale. The price of a zone D ticket has been aligned with that of two-zone tickets (AB, BC and CD) since the beginning of 2025. From 2 June 2026, instead of a zone D ticket, passengers must purchase a ticket covering either zones DE or zones CD.
Ticket prices, validity, and the cancellation terms for auto-renewing subscriptions are described in sections 2.1, 2.4.5 and 2.4.7.
Ticket changes and refunds related to the introduction of zone E
Zone E will be introduced with a two-month transition period from 2 June to 2 August 2026. During the transition period, tickets that include zone D can be used to travel in zone E. The purpose of the transition period is to minimize the need to change ticket zones due to the introduction of zone E.
A new section 4.6 has been added to the Conditions of Carriage, outlining the changes and potential refunds related to the introduction of zone E by ticket type. It also describes the situations in which customers are required to take action during the transition period.
Zone extension tickets to be withdrawn
Zone extension tickets will be withdrawn in connection with the introduction of zone E, according to the current plan on 2 June 2026. After this date, zone extension tickets will no longer be available for purchase.
In the future, customers can travel outside the zones covered by their season ticket by purchasing a single ticket for the zones not covered by their season ticket.
As part of the update, the previous section 2.5 on zone extension tickets is removed from the Ticket Terms and Conditions. In addition, references to zone extension tickets are removed from section 6.2.
Combining multiple tickets for the same journey will soon be possible
HSL will allow different tickets to be combined for the same journey. The tickets do not need to be purchased in the same way. This means that, for example, you can combine a season ticket on your HSL card with a single ticket purchased with contactless payment at a card reader, or combine an AB day ticket purchased in the HSL app with a single ticket for zones CD. Combining tickets is explained in section 6.2.
In addition, section 7.1 on the presentation of tickets has been updated to include provisions for presenting multiple tickets. If you use more than one ticket for your journey, you are required to present all of them to a ticket inspector.
Single and day tickets loaded on disposable cardboard cards are no longer accepted
The sale of disposable cardboard cards ended on 22 September 2025. Section 4.5 states that previously purchased cards could be used until the end of 2025. Unused tickets will primarily be refunded as corresponding HSL app tickets or as single or day tickets. Refund requests can be submitted until 30 September 2027.
