Zone extension tickets have been removed from HSL’s range of tickets as of today, 2 June 2026. These tickets can no longer be purchased. Separate zone extension tickets are no longer needed, as it is now possible to combine different tickets for the same journey. The tickets do not need to be purchased in the same way. This means that, for example, you can combine a season ticket on your HSL card with a single ticket purchased at a card reader, or combine an AB day ticket purchased in the HSL app with a single ticket for zones CD.
What to do if you have a season ticket on an HSL card
With an HSL card, you can combine a single ticket with your season ticket by selecting the zones you want to travel in at a card reader, as usual. The reader will sell you the appropriate single ticket using the value on your HSL card.
If you do not have value on your HSL card, you can buy a single ticket using contactless payment or the HSL app. For example, if you want to buy a single ticket for zone C to add to your AB season ticket using a contactless debit or credit card, select zones BC at a card reader. Please note that a card reader can only sell a ticket that includes the zone in which the reader is located.
What to do if you have a season ticket in the HSL app
In the HSL app, you can buy a single ticket to add to your season ticket by selecting the zones in which you want to travel that are not covered by your season ticket. You can also combine your season ticket with a day ticket or a multi-journey ticket that covers the zones not included in your season ticket.
In addition, you can buy a single ticket at a card reader using value on an HSL card or by paying with a contactless debit or credit card. For example, if you have an AB season ticket in the app and want to travel to zone D, buy a BCD single ticket at a card reader before the vehicle you are traveling on begins its journey to the first stop/station in zone C.
How to ensure that you have a valid ticket throughout your journey
If you use several tickets for the same journey, buy the complementary ticket before the vehicle you are traveling on leaves the last stop or station in the zones covered by your original ticket.
For example, if you have an AB season ticket and want to travel to zone C, buy a BC single ticket at a card reader before the vehicle you are traveling on begins its journey to the first stop or station in zone C. If you are using the HSL app, also make sure that your ticket has arrived on your phone. Single tickets are valid from the moment of purchase.
If you change from one vehicle to another during your journey, your ticket does not have to be valid all the way to the end of your journey. It is enough that your ticket is valid when you board the last vehicle or enter the Metro or ferry payment area.
