Public transport on Sunday 5 December and on Independence Day, 6 December

On Sunday 5 December, a Sunday service will operate, with night services operating on the night from Sunday to Monday. On Independence Day, 6 December, a Sunday service will operate.

Independence Day Eve, Sunday 5 December

On Sunday 5 December, a Sunday service will operate, with night services operating on the night from Sunday to Monday. The additional pre-Christmas season metro services will also operate, i.e. the metro will run two hours later than usual. Changes to U line bus services are possible.

Tram 5 will operate according to the passenger ferry operating hours.
 

Independence Day, Monday 6 December

On Independence Day, a Sunday service will operate. There will be diversions to bus and tram routes in downtown Helsinki due to students’ Independence Day procession.

Students’ Independence Day Procession approximately 5pm to 5.50pm

The traditional students’ Independence Day Procession will take place on Monday 6 December. The procession will assemble at the gate of Hietaniemi cemetery at 4.30pm. The procession will start at 5pm and arrive at the Senate Square at about 5.50pm.

 

Changes to tram services

  • Trams 1 and 2 will run in both directions directly along Mannerheimintie between 4.50pm and 5.30pm. The following stops will not be served: “Töölöntori” (H0209 and H0210), “Apollonkatu” (H0207 and H0208), “Sammonkatu” (H0205 and H0206), “Hanken” (H0203 and H0204) and “Luonnontieteellinen museo” (H0201 and H0202).

  • Tram 7 will run via Kaivokatu and Kaisaniemenkatu, i.e. it will not serve Kruununhaka, between 5.30pm and 6.15pm.

There will be delays to trams along the procession route.

Changes to bus route 24 and other bus routes

  • On bus route 24, the services from Kamppi at 4.33pm and 5.03pm as well as services from Seurasaari at 4.29pm and 4.59pm will run via Mechelinkatu. The following stops will not be served: “Taivallahti” (H1282), “Hietakannaksentie” (H1258 and H1259), “Hietaniemi” (H1269 and H1270) and “Väinämöisenkatu” (H1265 and H1266).
  • In addition, the procession will cause delays to bus routes 20, 25, 30, 37, 41, 42, 63 and 69 as well as for U line buses from Kamppi.

In addition to the students’ Independence Day processsion, there will be a number of protest marches that will cause delays to traffic in downtown Helsinki.
