Updated: HSL public transport over the May Day bank holiday

On Sunday 30 April and Monday 1 May, a Sunday service will operate. Additional public transport services will operate both on 30 April and 1 May. Tram routes will be diverted in downtown Helsinki on 30 April from 3.30pm.

Updated: Motor vehicles will not be transported on the Suomenlinna ferry on 30 April between 3pm and 8pm.

On Sunday 30 April and Monday 1 May, a Sunday service will operate. Additional public transport services will operate both on 30 April and 1 May. Tram routes will be diverted in downtown Helsinki on 30 April from 3.30pm due to May Eve celebrations around the statue of Havis Amanda. Delays are possible in downtown Helsinki also on 1 May due to various May Day celebrations. For detailed timetables and diversion routes, see the Journey Planner.

Sunday service will operate on Sunday 30 April and additional services will be running on May Day night


The Metro and commuter trains on the Ring Rail Line will run two hours later than usual and many bus routes will have additional night services. Tram routes will be diverted in downtown Helsinki from 3.30pm. Changes to U line bus services are possible.

On 30 April, the use of motor vehicles will be forbidden in the Market Square and in the Esplanadi area between 3pm and 8pm. During this time, motor vehicles will not be transported by ferry between the Market Square and Suomenlinna.

The last Metro services on May Day night

  • M1: From Kivenlahti to Vuosaari at 1.11am (Matinkylä at 1.21am, Tapiola at 1.27am, Central Railway Station at 1.41am, Kalasatama at 1.47am, Itäkeskus at 1.56am). From Vuosaari to Kivenlahti at 1.07am. From Mellunmäki to Kivenlahti at 1.15am (Itäkeskus at 1.21am, Kalasatama at 1.29am, Central Railway Station at 1.36am, Tapiola at 1.50am, Matinkylä at 1.56am).
  • M2: From Kivenlahti to Mellunmäki at 1.04am (Matinkylä at 1.14am, Tapiola at 1.19am, Central Railway Station at 1.34am, Kalasatama at 1.40am, Itäkeskus at 1.49am).

The Metro feeder services 84 and 88B will have additional departures from Herttoniemi Metro Station to Laajasalo until approximately 2am on May Day night. Other Metro feeder services will operate as usual.


Additional commuter train services on 30 April

Commuter trains E, L, U, I, P and K will start running with extra carriages from 12 o'clock noon on 30 April.

On May Day night, the following additional commuter train services will run:

  • L trains from Helsinki at 0.33am, 1.03am, 1.33am, 2.03am, 2.33am, 3.03am, 4.03am and 5.03am and from Kirkkonummi at 0.57am, 1.27am, 1.57am, 2.27am, 2.57am, 3.27am and 3.57am.
  • P trains at 1.18am, 1.48am, 2.18am, 2.48am and 3.18am.
  • I trains at 0.06am, 0.36am, 1.06am, 1.36am and 2.06am.
  • K trains from Helsinki at 1.21am, 2.21am and 3.21am and from Kerava at 1.04am, 2.04am, 3.04am and 4.04am.
  • T trains from Helsinki at 2.51am and 4.21am and from Riihimäki at 0.55am and 1.55am (from Kerava to Helsinki at 1.31am and 2.32am)
  • Z train from Helsinki at 1.10am.

Route changes for trams 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 on 30 April

Trams 2 and 3 have two different diversion routes:

  • Tram 2 from Ilmalantori will run to stop “Hietalahti” (H0811) in Ruoholahdenranta. From Hietalahti, the tram will continue towards Meilahti under route number 3.
  • Tram 3 from Meilahti Hospital will run to the terminus of tram 6 (H0826) in Eiranranta. From Eiranranta, the tram will continue towards Ilmala under route number 2.
  • Replacement bus 3X will run between stops “Lasipalatsi” (H1903) and “Eteläranta” (H0433).

Tram 2 will not serve the following stops:

  • Ylioppilastalo (H0401 and H0402)
  • Aleksanterinkatu (H0403 and H0404)
  • Senaatintori (H0405 and H0406)
  • Kauppatori (H0430 and H0431)
  • Eteläranta (H0432 and H0433)
  • Olympiaterminaali (H0434 and H0435)

Tram 3 will not serve the following stops:

  • Olympiaterminaali (H0434 and H0435)
  • Kaivopuisto (H0436 and H0437)
  • Neitsytpolku (H0438 and H0439)
  • Kapteeninkatu (H0440 and H0441)
  • Eiran sairaala (H0442 and H0443)
  • Viiskulma (H0815 and H0816)
  • Iso Roobertinkatu (H0813 and H0814)

  • Tram 4 will run via the Central Railway Station and Snellmaninkatu. The tram will not run via Ylioppilastalo and Aleksanterinkatu.
  • Tram 5 will run to stop “Kolmikulma” (H0709).
  • Tram 7 will run via the Central Railway Station and Kaisaniemenkatu. The tram will not serve Aleksanterinkatu and Kruununhaka.

Sunday service and additional departures on Monday 1 May

Trams will have the following additional services on Monday 1 May:

  • Tram 2B Kaivopuisto - Central Railway Station - Kaivopuisto will run every 12 minutes from approximately 9am to 9pm.
  • Tram 3B Kaivopuisto - Central Railway Station - Kauppatori will run every 12 minutes from approximately 9am to 9pm.
  • Trams 2 and 3 will run more frequently. 
  • The terminus of trams 2 and 3 at the Olympia Terminal will be moved to Kaivopuisto for the duration of May Day.
  • Tram 10B Kirurgi - Central Railway Station - Kauppatori will run every 12 minutes from approximately 9am to 7pm.
  • Tram 10 will run more frequently. 

You can also take the additional trunk bus 20B to travel to Kaivopuisto. The bus will run every 7–10 minutes between Eira and Kamppi from 8.30am to 8pm.

Commuter trains E, L, U, I, P and K will have extra carriages on May Day from approximately 9am to 7pm.
