The funeral procession of former President Martti Ahtisaari will cause traffic delays in the center of Helsinki on Friday 10 November about 2.30pm–4pm. Delays and exceptions are possible until about 5pm.
There will be delays to all tram routes and to bus routes 20, 24, 25, 30, 37, 41, 42, 63, 69, 70, 212, 213 and 400. Tram routes 4 and 7 as well as bus routes 24 and 25 will be diverted. In addition, the Suomenlinna ferry will not carry cars on Friday between 11am and 6pm.
The procession will leave Helsinki Cathedral at 2.45pm and arrive at Hietaniemi Cemetery at about 3.30pm. The procession will take the following route: Unioninkatu, Aleksanterinkatu, Pohjoisesplanadi, Unioninkatu, Aleksanterinkatu, Mannerheimintie, Arkadiankatu, Pohjoinen Rautatiekatu, Mechelininkatu and Hietaniemi Cemetery.
Please allow extra time for your journeys if you are travelling in the city center on Friday afternoon. Traffic will be stopped for the procession. Trams and buses will continue their journey once the procession has passed.
Disruptions to tram services about 2.30pm–4pm
There will be delays to all tram services along the procession route, in particular on Aleksanterinkatu, Mannerheimintie and Arkadiankatu. Tram routes 4 and 7 will be diverted when the procession leaves the Helsinki Cathedral.
Tram 4 will run via Kaivokatu, Kaisaniemenkatu, Liisankatu and Snellmaninkatu. The “Ylioppilastalo” (H0401 and H0402), “Aleksanterinkatu” (H0403 and H0404) and “Senaatintori” (H0405 and H0406) stops on Aleksanterinkatu will not be served.
Tram 7 will run between the Central Railway Station and Hakaniemi straight along Kaisaniemenkatu, Kruununhaka will not be served. The “Ylioppilastalo” (H0401 and H0402), “Aleksanterinkatu” (H0403 and H0404), “Hallituskatu” (H0450 and H0451), “Kansallisarkisto” (H0452 and H0453) and “Snellmaninkatu” (H0454 and H0455) stops will not be served.
Disruptions to bus services about 2pm–15.30pm
There will be delays to bus routes 20, 24, 25, 30, 37, 41, 42, 63, 69, 70, 212, 213 and 400 in Kamppi. Bus routes 24 and 25 will be diverted.
Bus 24 will run straight along Mechelininkatu and Hietaniemenkatu, the bus will not serve Hietaniemi. The services from Kamppi at 2.12pm and 2.42pm and from Seurasaari at 2.05pm, 2.35pm and 3.05pm will be diverted. The bus will serve the “Perhonkatu” (H1278), “Caloniuksenkatu” (H1279) and “Taivallahti” (H1304) stops of bus 25 on Mechelininkatu.
Bus 25 will run via Hietaniemenkatu instead of Pohjoinen Rautatiekatu. The services from Kamppi between 2.45pm and 3.25pm and services from Pajamäki between 2.26pm and 3.25pm will be diverted. The “Leppäsuonkatu” bus stops (H1230 and H1231) will not be served.
Changes to Suomenlinna ferry services 11am–6pm
The Suomenlinna ferry will not carry cars between 11am and 6pm due to the funeral arrangements. The service ferry departing from Katajanokka will carry cars as usual.
