HSL public transport over May Day bank holiday 2024

Suomenlinna ferry will switch to summer timetable on Monday 29 April. On Tuesday 30 April, a Friday service will operate. On Wednesday 1 May, a Sunday service will operate.

We will increase the number of public transport services over the May Day bank holiday. On the night of 30 April, the Metro and commuter trains on the Ring Rail Line will run approximately two hours later than usual. Commuter trains will operate with extra carriages, thus increasing their passenger capacity. Trams will have additional services on 1 May.

The crowning of the statue Manta will this year take place on Kansalaistori on 30 April. Due to the ceremony, bus routes serving Elielinaukio will be diverted approximately between 3.45pm–8pm.

Friday service will operate on Tuesday 30 April and additional services will run on the night of 30 April

  • The crowning of the statue Manta will this year take place on Kansalaistori. Due to the ceremony, bus routes serving Elielinaukio will be diverted approximately between 3.45pm and 8pm. 
  • A May parade organized by the Aalto University School of Business approximately between 4pm–4.30pm from Senate Square to Kansalaistori will cause momentary delays to public transport services. The parade will start from Senate Square and make its way via Unioninkatu, Eteläesplanadi, Mannerheimintie, Töölönlahdenkatu and Kansalaistori.
  • Tram routes will not be diverted, but tram 9N will operate according to a Friday timetable and tram 5 according to a Mon–Thu timetable.
  • The following bus routes will have additional services: 21N, 84, 87, 108N, 113N, 114N, 147N, 173N, 231N, 235N, 300, 345, 436N
  • The Metro will run approximately two hours longer than usual on the night of 30 April. The Metro will run every 15 minutes until the end of service on both sections of the line. This means that waiting time at the stations between Kivenlahti and Itäkeskus will be no longer than 7.5 minutes.

The last metro services on the night of 30 April:

    • From Kivenlahti to Mellunmäki at 1.03am
      (Matinkylä at 1.13am, Tapiola at 1.19am, Rautatientori at 1.33am, Kalasatama at 1.39am, Itäkeskus at 1.48am, Mellunmäki at 1.54am)
    • From Kivenlahti to Vuosaari at 1.11am
      (Matinkylä at 1.20am, Tapiola at 1.26am, Rautatientori at 1.41am, Kalasatama at 1.47am, Itäkeskus at 1.56am, Vuosaari at 2.02am).
    • From Vuosaari to Kivenlahti at 1.07am
      (Itäkeskus at 1.13am, Kalasatama at 1.22am, Rautatientori at 1.28am, Tapiola at 1.42am, Matinkylä at 1.48am, Kivenlahti at 1.58am)
    • From Mellunmäki to Kivenlahti at 1.15am
      (Itäkeskus at 1.21am, Kalasatama at 1.29am, Rautatientori at 1.36am, Tapiola at 1.50am, Matinkylä at 1.56am, Kivenlahti at 2.06am)
  • In Herttoniemi, buses 84 and 87 will run from Herttoniemi metro station in the direction of Laajasalo approximately until 2am on the night of 30 April. Other metro feeder services will operate as usual.

  • On the Ring Rail Line, the following additional services will operate on the night of 30 April:


    • P trains from Helsinki to Helsinki Airport at 1.46am, 2.16am, 2.46am, 3.16am and 3.46am and from Helsinki Airport to Helsinki at 2.24am, 2.54am, 3.24am, 3.54am and 4.24am.

    • I trains from Helsinki to Helsinki Airport at 0.11am, 0.36am, 1.06am and 1.36am and from Helsinki Airport to Helsinki at 0.45am, 1.05am, 1.35am and 2.05am.
  • In addition, commuter trains E, U, L, I, P and K will operate with additional carriages after the afternoon peak hours until approximately 5am. However, P and I trains to and from Helsinki Airport will have the normal number of carriages on 1 May. This means that every other train on the Ring rail Line between Helsinki–Huopalahti–Myyrmäki will operate with additional carriages.

On 1 May, a Sunday service will operate

  • The traditional workers' May Day march and other celebrations from Hakaniemi square to Kansalaistori approximately at 11.15am–12.15pm will cause momentary delays to public transport services. The march will start from Hakaniemi square and make its way via Siltasaarenkatu, Unioninkatu, Pohjoisesplanadi, Mannerheimintie and Kansalaistori.

  • The March for Jesus will start from Narinkkatori at 12noon and make its way via Mannerheimintie, Eteläesplanadi, Fabianinkatu, Pohjoisesplanadi, Mannerheimintie and Narinkkatori. The parade will cause momentary delays to public transport services.

  • Trams will have following additional services:

  • Commuter trains E, U, L, I, P and K will operate with additional carriages approximately between 9am–8pm. However, P and I trains to and from Helsinki Airport will have the normal number of carriages on 1 May. This means that every other train on the Ring rail Line between Helsinki–Huopalahti–Myyrmäki will operate with additional carriages.
