During the renovation work, the customer restrooms, the escalators and stairs next to the restrooms, some benches, and part of the bus waiting area, as well as the Otto ATM, will be out of use. The Otto ATM has already been removed from service, and the nearest replacement ATM is in the lobby of K-Supermarket Hertta.
Access to the Metro and buses will remain available from the Hiihtomäentie side of the station throughout the work. The Metro platform and other areas of the station will also remain in use as normal.
The escalator that usually goes down will be reversed to go up, making it easier to get around the station during the work. To go in the opposite direction, from street level to the Metro, you will need to use the regular stairs or the lift.
Additionally, some of the exterior doors of the ticket hall on the Hiihtomäentie side will be out of use. However, the sliding doors on both sides, as well as the regular doors west of the sliding doors, closer to Hertta, will remain in use.
Changes to bus departure bays and outdoor areas at the station during the summer
Work on the outdoor areas has already commenced, with the demolition of the planting beds next to the departure bays for buses 80 and 82 towards Roihuvuori.
Later in the summer, in addition to tending to all the planting areas, maintenance work will be conducted on shelters at the bus stops for buses towards Laajasalo, Roihuvuori, and the Herttoniemi industrial area.
Due to the shelter maintenance, there will be temporary changes to the bus departure bays at the station during the summer. We will provide more detailed information about these closer to the time.
Additionally, we will install new timetable displays near the bus bays on the Hiihtomäentie side of the station, both outside and inside the ticket hall, to make bus travel easier.
Renovation makes the station more pleasant for passengers and improves safety
The lighting and all interior surfaces of the ticket hall will be renovated this summer. Additionally, the lift and escalators on the Hiihtomäentie side will be replaced later in the year. The lift at the Hertta end of the station has already been renovated this spring.
In the outdoor areas, paving stones will be replaced, planting areas will be revamped, and lighting will be improved. The concrete planting boxes will be removed and replaced with potted plants. Additionally, more bicycle parking spaces will be added.
The work at the station will be fully completed by the end of 2025. Work on the outdoor areas will be carried out during the summer. The Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd is responsible for the work.
The renovation work will not affect Metro services. It will be conducted in a way that minimizes disruption to passengers. Buses will continue to operate normally to the station throughout the work, despite temporary changes to the departure bays.

Adding greenery to the station
The Metropolitan Area Ltd and the City of Helsinki's innovation company, Forum Virium Helsinki, will conduct experiments at the Metro station as part of the EU-funded PilotGreen project. PilotGreen aims to develop innovative green infrastructure solutions for cities.
A smart pollinator garden will be constructed on the roof of the entrance building at entrance C, along with a green wall on the façade. Additionally, a bus shelter made from recycled glulam from demolished buildings will be built near the bus bays on the same side.
