This year, users of city bikes in Helsinki and Espoo were most satisfied with the clarity of and affordability of user fees. Registration as a user and purchasing passes were deemed easy. Instructions for the use of the bikes were considered clear and easy to understand.
The Net Promoter Score (NPS) remained the same as last year at 48, which is an excellent result. Customers gave the city bikes an overall rating of 3.75 (on a scale of 1 to 5).
Like last year, returning of the bikes and their availability were given the lowest ratings.
More than 4,500 city bike users responded to the survey. Most of them used city bikes a few times a week throughout the season. Those who used city bikes several times a day were the most satisfied with the city bike service.
This year, the bikes were used most for leisure journeys and for running errands. The proportion of commuting journeys made by city bikes increased markedly from the previous year. A majority of the users also combined city biking with public transport for their journeys
There was a slight increase in the use of the city bikes from the previous year, with some 2.5 million journeys made in Helsinki and Espoo. The number of bikes available was the same as last year, totaling nearly 4,600. The number of bike station was also the same, 457 (347 in Helsinki and 110 in Espoo).
The most common reasons for trying a city bike for the first time were the desire to experiment, low price, ease of use and employer-provided benefits.
Getting exercise and using the bikes as an alternative to public transport were the main reasons for using city bikes more than before.
City bikes will be back again next year
The city bike season will end in Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa on Tuesday 31 October. After this, the bikes will be collected for storage and maintenance. The next season will begin in spring 2024.
Auto-renewing subscriptions will renew automatically in the spring. No subscription fees are charged during the winter months. Those wishing to cancel their subscription can do so anytime at the city bike website.
