The existing online store will later be replaced by a new HSL Ticket Store, where you can buy HSL tickets and value for all zones and customer groups. Value and tickets purchased on the new HSL Ticket Store will no longer need to be transferred separately to the HSL card. We will notify our customers of the exact date when the new HSL Ticket Store opens once the date is confirmed.
Tickets purchased via the existing online store cannot be transferred to the HSL card at new card readers
You need to transfer a ticket or value purchased via the existing online store to your HSL card before you can use it at a large blue ticket machine or by showing your card to an old card reader the first time you use it after the purchase. After this, you can use the HSL card at both old and new card readers. Read more about the new card readers.
If you are unable to transfer a ticket or value purchased online to your HSL card because the vehicle you board has a new card reader, you can still board the vehicle and transfer the ticket or value to your card the next time you come across an old card reader. Ticket inspectors can see tickets and value purchased online on their devices and can also make the transfer. You will not be issued a penalty fare.
Now is a good time to switch to using the HSL app. The app can be downloaded on smartphones free of charge and it provides an easy way to purchase tickets. The auto-renewing saver subscription available via the app is the most economical season ticket. The app also provides you with routes and the latest news on public transport.
In addition to the online store, you can top up your HSL card at S-market, Prisma and Alepa stores, R-kiosks, ticket machines, and at HSL and municipal service points. You can top up your HSL card with value at the above-mentioned sales and service points and machines even after 16 October. If you top up your card at the large blue ticket machines, you don’t need to pay a service fee.

As many as 83 per cent of our customers already use the HSL app. The share of customers using the HSL card is 17 per cent. The majority of HSL card users purchase their tickets at markets, kiosks, ticket machines and service points, since less than five per cent of all purchases are made via the online store.
We will replace all 4,200 card readers with new ones during 2024. About 1,700 new card readers have been installed so far (situation on 16 August). We apologize for the inconvenience and trouble that the transition between the two systems may cause.
The new card readers and HSL Ticket Store are part of an extensive overhaul of payment and backend systems. The new card readers will also later enable contactless payment. We will inform customers of any changes to our services well in advance as soon as the schedules are confirmed.
