The existing online store will later be replaced by a new online service, HSL Ticket Store, where you can buy tickets and value onto your HSL card for all zones and customer groups. You will no longer need to transfer value and tickets purchased via the new HSL Ticket Store separately to your HSL card. We will let you know when the new HSL Ticket Store opens once the exact date is confirmed. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the online service disruption.
Tickets purchased via the existing online store cannot be transferred to the HSL card at new card readers
You need to transfer a ticket or value purchased online to your HSL card before you can use them. You can make the transfer at the large HSL ticket machines or R-kiosks, or at Alepa, S-market and Prisma stores without a service fee. A ticket or value you have purchased will not show on your HSL card until you have made the transfer. After the transfer, you can use your card at new card readers as usual. Since July 2024, passengers have been allowed to board vehicles even if they are unable to make the transfer due to the vehicle having a new card reader. This exception was in effect during the transitional period when both old and new card readers were in use. As nearly all card readers have now been replaced, this exception will be lifted effective from 18 November and season tickets and value purchased online must be transferred to the HSL card before boarding a vehicle. If you use value, you also need buy a ticket at the card reader when boarding.
Now is a good time to switch to using the HSL app. The app, which can be downloaded on smartphones free of charge, provides an easy way to purchase tickets. The auto-renewing saver subscription available via the app is the most economical season ticket. The app also provides you with routes and the latest news on public transport. As many as 77 per cent of our customers already use the HSL app. The share of customers using the HSL card is 23 per cent. Read more about the HSL app.
In addition to the online service, you can top up your HSL card at S-market, Prisma and Alepa stores, R-kiosks, and at HSL and municipal service points. You can top up your HSL card with value at the above-mentioned sales and service points and machines also after 16 October. If you top up your card at the large HSL ticket machines, you don’t need to pay a service fee.

The total number of card readers is approximately 4,000. We will replace all readers with new ones during 2024. So far, we have already replaced approximately three-fourths of all readers.
The new card readers and HSL Ticket Store are part of an extensive overhaul of payment and backend systems that will make buying and using tickets easier. We will also introduce contactless payment as a new payment method. Contactless payment is ideal especially for tourists and for those who only use public transport occasionally. We will inform our customers of any changes to our services well in advance once the schedules are confirmed.
Updated on 12 November: As of 18 November, tickets and value purchased online must be transferred to the HSL card before boarding a vehicle.
