The goal is to examine the demand for short public transport journeys more closely using limited test groups.
“Based on customer feedback we have received, we assume that customers would like to make more short journeys using public transport. By offering the opportunity to purchase 10-minute single tickets, we can study this demand more closely. We will monitor how many 10-minute single tickets are purchased, and see what kind of feedback we receive about these short public transport journeys,” says Rauno Särkkäaho, Head of Unit at HSL.
The results of the study will be used to evaluate the development needs of our range of tickets. However, this study does not mean that new tickets will be developed based on it. The short journey single ticket, which is available for a limited time, is not a permanent addition to HSL’s range of tickets. Instead, it serves as a tool to more accurately determine demand in practice.
What is the short journey ticket and who can buy it?
It is a single ticket for adults, valid for 20 minutes (starting from 15 April). Initially, the validity period was 10 minutes. The ticket is available for purchase for a limited time from 12 February to 8 June 2025, specifically for residents of four postcode areas who have strongly authenticated on the HSL app.
- Punavuori 00120
- Eira, Hernesaari 00150
- Etu-Vallila, Alppila 00510
- Vallila 00550
The goal is to assess the demand for short public transport journeys in areas where we estimate that short journeys are typically and most likely made.
If you live in one of the selected postcode areas, are logged in to the HSL app, and have completed strong authentication, the ticket will automatically appear in your app's ticket options. You need HSL app version 6.6.0 or later. The ticket will not be visible to other HSL app users.
Make sure to keep your HSL app updated. We released app version 6.7.1 on 15 April, at the same time we extended the ticket’s validity period. Please note that the availability of the app update may vary depending on your device or operating system. It usually takes about a week for the update to be available to all customers.
To purchase the ticket, you must also consent to the collection of your travel data and allow this data to be linked to your HSL account.
The ticket entitles you to a 20-minute journey only on buses, trams, and light rail in the entire HSL area (the validity period was extended from 10 minutes to 20 minutes on 15 April). You must activate the ticket before boarding within 24 hours of the purchase, and it must be valid throughout the journey. The tickets are personal.
