Validity of the 10-minute tickets, available for purchase for a limited time, extended to 20 minutes

The short journey tickets available for purchase via the HSL app for people living in postcode areas 00120, 00150, 00510, and 00550 are part of our study on short public transport journeys. We have extended the ticket's validity period from 10 minutes to 20 minutes.

Our aim is to assess the demand for these journeys and track the number and types of journeys made using the short journey ticket. Read more about the study in our earlier news release and see detailed instructions for using the tickets.

“So far, the study and the feedback we have received indicate that there is some demand for short journeys. However, the ticket’s validity period has been perceived as too short. For the remainder of the study period, we want to investigate in more detail whether the demand changes, i.e., whether more short journeys are made if the validity period is longer. Therefore, we are extending the ticket's validity period to 20 minutes. We hope this adjustment will provide us with more information to better assess the demand for short journeys,” says Rauno Särkkäaho, Head of Unit.

We started the study in mid-February, and the 10-minute adult single tickets have been available for purchase since then. According to preliminary estimates, roughly one-tenth of residents of the four postcode areas included in the study have purchased 10-minute tickets to date. The study will conclude on 8 June 2025, and the tickets will be withdrawn from sale on 9 June.

Do you live in the selected postcode areas and plan to buy a short journey ticket? Please take note of the following:

  • The validity period of the tickets has been automatically extended. You only need to select the ticket and buy it as usual. The app will guide you through the purchase. For more information about the purchase and use of the ticket, see our previous news release.
  • In the HSL app, the ticket name and validity period may still show as 10 minutes. However, when you buy the ticket, it will be valid for 20 minutes. For the updated texts to appear in your app, you need to update to app version 6.7.1.
  • We recommend enabling automatic updates to ensure your HSL app is always current.

Update on 8 May: The survey period has been extended by about three weeks until 8 June. The tickets will be withdrawn from sale on 9 June.
