This is how HSL public transport will operate in 2026–2027: Planned works to affect especially rail services, tram service to Laajasalo to begin

Planned works and the opening of new transport links will affect public transport in the Helsinki region in 2026 and 2027. Helsinki’s tram network will expand to Laajasalo in early 2027, when Kruunusillat (Crown Bridges) open. In summer 2026, there will be numerous changes to commuter train services due to construction work. Bus services will see some targeted changes. These and many other changes are outlined in HSL’s Transport Service Plan for 2026–2027, which the HSL Executive Board approved on Wednesday, 20 January.

The plan brings together all planned changes to public transport in the Helsinki region. It covers the period from 2026 to the start of the summer timetable season in 2027. The Transport Service Plan is prepared annually.

The biggest change is the launch of tram services to Laajasalo. Trams 11 (Pasila–Kalasatama–Kruunuvuorenranta) and 12 (Rautatientori–Hakaniemi–Yliskylä) will begin operating in early 2027 with the completion of Kruunusillat. The introduction of the new tram routes will also bring changes to the bus routes serving Laajasalo.

As in previous years, various renovation and construction works will have a significant impact on travel. In 2026, commuter train services will be particularly affected. Train services will be fully suspended between Huopalahti and Myyrmäki from 1 June to 9 August due to the renovation of Pohjois-Haaga, Kannelmäki and Malminkartano stations.

In addition, train services west of Leppävaara will be disrupted for five weeks in midsummer, as well as on some weekends later in the year. On the Main Line, commuter trains via Tikkurila will operate a reduced service in the summer due to the renovation of Puistola and Tapanila stations.

The renovation of Mäkelänkatu and construction of the Vantaa light rail will also affect public transport.

We will also make targeted changes to bus services to improve the cost-effectiveness of the network. Most of the changes will affect services, for example, during school holidays and quieter times of day. The savings achieved through these adjustments total EUR 3.8 million.
