This is how public transport will operate in 2026–2027
HSL’s Transport Service Plan for 2026–2027 has been published. The plan sets out changes to public transport services from 2026 to June 2027.
Key changes
Kruunusillat (Crown Bridges) tramway to open
The tram link between central Helsinki and Laajasalo is expected to begin service in early 2027.
Changes to tram and train services in the summer
Track and street work, as well as station renovations, will affect services in several locations.
Bus services: increases and reductions
Cost-saving measures will affect bus services.
Metro
There are no planned changes to the regular Metro service. However, the replacement of the Junatie metro bridge will start affecting services in early 2027, when the Kalasatama Metro Station will be closed, and trains will run through the station without stopping. In summer 2027, Metro services will be disrupted between Hakaniemi and Herttoniemi.
The Kalasatama Metro Station is expected to close in spring 2027 due to the replacement of the Junatie metro bridge. The station is partly located on the bridge to be replaced, and therefore, the station must be closed before the full suspension of Metro services. Tram route 13 will be extended from Nihti via Kalasatama and the Central Railway Station to Kolmikulma. Additionally, the route of tram 12 (Hakaniemi–Yliskylä) will be extended from Hakaniemi to Railway Square.
Metro services will be disrupted between Hakaniemi and Herttoniemi starting in summer 2027. During the disruption, replacement bus 99 will run between Hakaniemi and Herttoniemi. In addition, the service frequency of bus routes 59, 500 and 510 operating along Itäväylä will be increased.
Commuter trains
There are no planned changes to the regular commuter train services. However, the services will be affected by several renovation and construction projects, particularly in summer 2026.
There will be no train service between Huopalahti and Myyrmäki from 1 June 2026 to 9 August 2026. Additionally, Malminkartano station will be closed from 3 May to 6 September 2026. These changes are due to repair work at Malminkartano, Kannelmäki and Pohjois-Haaga stations.
- From 1 June to 9 August 2026, I trains will only run between Helsinki, Tikkurila, Helsinki Airport and Myyrmäki.
- P trains will run from Myyrmäki via Helsinki Airport and Tikkurila to Helsinki.
- During the closure of Malminkartano station, from 3 May to 31 May and from 10 August to 6 September, trains will operate a reduced service between Helsinki and Myyrmäki, running every 20 minutes.
- During the service disruption, replacement bus 401X will run between Pasila and Myyrmäki. We will also add services or make minor adjustments to bus routes 37, 40, 41, 52 and 400.
Tracks will be closed between Ilmala and Leppävaara from 1 June to 9 August 2026 due to repair work on the southern Nurmijärventie underpass.
- Valimo, Pitäjänmäki and Mäkkylä stations will not be served.
- I and trains will only run between Helsinki, Tikkurila, Helsinki Airport and Myyrmäki.
- All trains running between Helsinki and Leppävaara will stop at Ilmala.
- E, U and Y trains will run as usual, but L trains will not stop between Ilmala and Leppävaara.
- During construction work related to the Espoo Rail Line in mid-summer, there will be no train services west of Leppävaara, and A trains will be replaced by X trains running every 15 minutes.
I, P and K trains will operate a reduced service, and there are changes to stations served by I trains between Oulunkylä and Tikkurila from 1 June to 9 August 2026. This is due to the renovation of Puistola and Tapanila stations and the repair of the Suurmetsäntie underpass.
- I, P and K trains will run every 20 minutes.
- I trains from Helsinki via Tikkurila will run through Pukinmäki, Malmi, Tapanila and Puistola stations without stopping.
- P and K trains to Helsinki will operate at irregular headways, approximately every 5 to 15 minutes.
- On-peak K trains will be operated with three train units to ensure sufficient capacity.
Trains will not run between Leppävaara, Kirkkonummi and Siuntio from 22 June to 26 July 2026. All train services will be replaced by buses. In addition, the services will be disrupted on weekends in May 2025 as well as in September and October 2026.
- Trains will only run between Helsinki and Leppävaara.
- During the weekend disruptions, A trains will run every 10 minutes.
- During the five-week service disruption in the summer, X trains will run between Helsinki and Leppävaara every 15 minutes. These trains will not stop at Valimo, Pitäjänmäki or Mäkkylä.

The construction of new tracks between Purola and Jokela will affect R and D train timetables from 15 June to 9 August 2026. The trains will operate a reduced peak-time service, and not all trains will stop at Ainola.
Trams and light rail
Tram service to Laajasalo is expected to launch in early 2027. Construction and renovation work, for example, on Mäkelänkatu, will affect tram services.
We are preparing to launch tram services between Laajasalo and central Helsinki on two new routes in early 2027. The replacement of the Junatie metro bridge will affect these new routes in their early stages. This plan outlines the services on these routes in early 2027, during the period when the Metro does not serve Kalasatama station.
The new routes will bring tram services to new areas such as Laajasalo, Korkeasaari and Merihaka. Additionally, in many cases, journeys from Kruunuvuorenranta and other parts of Laajasalo towards the central city will no longer require transfers.
Tram 11:
- Route: Länsi-Pasila – Pasila station – Kalasatama – Kruunuvuorenranta
- Operating hours: Monday to Friday from early morning to 9pm, Saturdays and Sundays from around 9am to 9pm
- Service frequency: every 15 minutes during the daytime.
Tram 12:
- Route: Rautatientori (Railway Square) – Hakaniemi – Nihti – Korkeasaari – Laajasalo (Yliskylä)
- Operating hours: From early morning to 2am.
- Service frequency: every 7.5 minutes during the daytime.
Timetable changes:
- The period with 6-minute headways during the afternoon peak will be slightly shorter. Daytime service will run more frequently, every 7.5 minutes, from around noon until the afternoon peak.
- During the final hour of operation, services will run every 30 minutes instead of the current 20 minutes.
- We are also considering shortening Sunday operating hours by about an hour to extend the Monday early-morning maintenance break by an hour.
- The last service towards Keilaniemi on Monday to Saturday evenings will depart about 15 minutes earlier.
- The last service towards Itäkeskus on Monday to Saturday evenings will be rescheduled to about 10-15 minutes later.
- These changes allow us to allocate services to times when the demand is the highest. The longer nighttime service break will also improve tram maintenance.
There will be no tram service on Mäkelänkatu from 1 June to 30 August 2026.
- Tram 1 will run from Sörnäinen along Hämeentie to St. Paul’s Church (Paavalinkirkko).
- Tram 7 will run between Sörnäinen and Pasila via Helsinginkatu, Läntinen Brahenkatu and Aleksis Kiven katu, following the route of tram 9.
- Trams will not serve Mäkelänkatu and Käpylä, but buses will operate as usual.
- Journeys between the south end of Mäkelänkatu and Pasila require a transfer to tram 13 at Velodrom.
Tram service on Arkadiankatu and the southern section of Runeberginkatu (up to Caloniuksenkatu) will be suspended starting around March 2027.
- Trams 1 and 3 will run between the city center and Opera via Mannerheimintie.
- The “Luonnontieteellinen museo”, “Hanken”, and “Sammonkatu” stops will be temporarily closed.
- Trams 4 and 10 will operate a reduced weekday service, running every 10 minutes to prevent congestion caused by increased tram traffic on Mannerheimintie. The operating hours of tram 5 in Katajanokka will be extended to cover peak hours.
- Tram 8 will run through the worksite during the initial phase, but later in 2027, this section of the route will not be operated.
Light rail
We are preparing for maintenance work. We will provide details about how this will affect the light rail services later.
Buses
There will be some changes to bus services. We aim to cut costs and allocate services where there’s demand.
- Bus route 16 will be withdrawn due to reduced passenger numbers. In addition, in the future, public transport service to Korkeasaari will be provided by trams 11 and 12. Tram 13 from Pasila and Kalasatama already serves Korkeasaari. Changes to bus routes 55 and 81 will replace the withdrawn service of route 16.
- Bus 55 will be rerouted between Kaisaniemi and Sörnäisten rantatie via Liisankatu and Pohjoisranta.
- Bus 81 will be rerouted to run clockwise from Kulosaari to Herttoniemi along Kyösti Kalliontie, Risto Rytin tie (southward), Kulosaarentie, Svinhufvudintie, Tupasaarentie, Risto Rytin tie (northward). Bus 81 will replace the withdrawn service of route 16 in Kulosaari.
Buses 23 and 63 will be rerouted via Postipuisto along Postiljooninkatu, Lähetintie and Ilmanrinne when the temporary street between the Posti Logistics Center and the rail yard is completed, at the earliest in late 2026. The temporary street will follow the alignment of the future permanent street. This change will improve transport links to Postipuisto, as the buses will run closer to housing in the area.
We are preparing to reroute buses 37 and 59 to run directly along Naapurinpellontie at the earliest in August 2026. Buses will no longer serve the old route.
Starting 10 August 2026, the buses will run every 10 minutes instead of every 15 minutes on weekday evenings and Saturdays. This change will enable more frequent service between Tapiola and Espoon keskus, as well as improve connections to Suurpelto.
Services will be added at peak times. The service frequency will increase to about every 8 minutes from the current every 10 minutes in the morning towards Martinlaakso and in the afternoon towards Matinkylä.
The terminus for the buses in Leppävaara will move from Ring I (bay 42) to the Leppävaara terminal (bay 18) on 15 June 2026.
The bus will be rerouted between Suurpelto and Kauniainen via Sepänkallio along Lillhemtintie, Storhemtie, Kyläsepäntie, Stensintie and Gresantie from 10 August 2026.
The service frequency increased from every 10 minutes to every 8 minutes in the morning peak towards Myyrmäki and in the afternoon peak towards Rastila on 7 January 2026. In autumn 2027, the bus will start running every 8 minutes at peak times on weekdays in both directions.
The weekday service trial will end in June 2026. From summer 2026, weekend service will be piloted on the current route from Hakaniemi via Tammisto and Jumbo to Ylästö, operating every 60 minutes between 8am and 10pm. The pilot will run until summer 2027. We will actively monitor the passenger numbers on the route.
The bus will operate between Tikkurila and Kuusijärvi Monday to Sunday, starting from 15 June 2026.
The bus will be rerouted between Hyrylä and Paijala to run via Hämeentie and Nummenväylä. The bus will run from the Hyrylä terminal via Rykmentin puistotie, Autoasemankatu, Koskenmäentie, Hämeentie and Nummenväylä to Paijalantie. From Paijalantie, the bus will follow its current route to Hyrylä and Kerava. This means that the bus will operate in a loop on the section from Koskenmäentie via Hämeentie, Nummenväylä and Paijalantie back to Koskenmäentie.
The bus will be rerouted to run from and to the Hyrylä bus terminal via Rykmentinpuisto along Rykmentin puistotie, Kulloontie and Mahlamäentie. This change will enable nighttime services to Rykmentintie.
Services will be added on the route for the summer, starting 15 June 2026, to improve connections to Kalkkiranta. A ferry operates from Kalkkiranta to the Sipoo archipelago.
The changes taking effect on 10 August 2026 are listed below.
- There will be no changes to bus route 21.
- Bus 22: The bus will be rerouted to run from Porkkalankatu via Länsisatamankatu, Välimerenkatu, Jätkäsaarenkatu and Hietalahdenkatu. The terminus will remain in Punavuori. The bus will run every 15 minutes instead of every 10 minutes between Katajaharju and Lauttasaari. During the daytime and on weekends, the buses will run every 20 minutes. All services will run to Punavuori. In the future, bus route 22B will operate only during quiet hours.
