Two different options for future tram routes – voice your opinion!

We are currently planning new tram routes in Helsinki and in some parts of the neighboring cities. The reason behind the planning is the fact that the tram route network has been expanding rapidly, which also affects the current routes. We have now drafted two different options for the new tram routes in Helsinki. Both options take into account light rail lines running also in the central city area.

The planning has been carried out from a long-term perspective. The routes presented in the two options could be finished in their entirety in approximately 15 years, around the mid-2030s. However, the idea is to change the routes step by step as new sections and projects are completed.

The starting point for the two options that we have now published on our website has been the new light rail lines that will run through the city center. For example, the Yliskylä light rail line is meant to run from Laajasalo through Kamppi all the way to the West Terminal, whereas the Vihdintie light rail line will run via Bulevardi to Hernesaari.

The two options have many similarities and the differences between the two are defined based on changes to the current tram routes. Will tram 4 run to Eira or Kirurgi? Will tram 6 continue to Kaivopuisto or Kolmikulma from Kruununhaka? And what will tram route 5 look like?

You can now read more about options A and B and the changes they would bring about on our website.

You can leave a comment on the options in the comment field below by 5 September.
