Changes to Metro timetables on 14 August – service frequency to increase during peak hours Tuesday–Thursday

The Metro will switch to winter timetables on 14 August. At the same time, the timetables will also undergo changes. In the future, the Metro will operate a more frequent service during peak hours. Between Itäkeskus and Tapiola, the Metro will run as often as every 2.5 minutes. Moreover, the Metro will operate according to a different timetable on different weekdays. In other words, we will add additional services to those days when the number of metro passengers is the highest. You can find all the timetables for the Metro as well as feeder bus services in the Journey Planner. In addition, the routes of certain feeder buses will change in Espoo and East Helsinki.

When the Metro has switched to winter timetables, the service frequency will be as high as it has been in the summer during daytime, in the evening and early in the morning. However, during peak hours on weekdays, the Metro will run more frequently between Itäkeskus and Tapiola, as often as every 2.5 minutes.

Additional services on busiest days

In the future, the Metro will operate a more frequent service during peak hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Until now, the Metro has operated according to the same service frequency during peak hours on every weekday.

Weekday timetables that change depending on the day of the week make it possible to have more services on the busiest days when the number of passengers using the Metro is the highest.

  • In the future, services will depart from Vuosaari, Mellunmäki and Kivenlahti every 5 minutes during peak hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. In other words, the Metro runs every 2.5 minutes between Itäkeskus and Tapiola during peak hours. Every other service will run on metro line M1 and every other on line M2.
  • Correspondingly, services will depart from Vuosaari, Mellunmäki and Kivenlahti every 6 minutes during peak hours on Mondays and Fridays. In other words, the Metro will run every 3 minutes between Itäkeskus and Tapiola during peak hours. Every other service will run on metro line M1 and every other on line M2.

All the new timetables for the Metro and feeder buses are already available in the Journey Planner (search date 14 August or after). You can also use the Journey Planner to check how the improved service frequency will affect your travelling on different days of the week. All the metro feeder buses operate according to the same timetable on every weekday.

NB! The routes of certain metro feeder buses will change for instance in Matinkylä, Laajasalo, Otaniemi and Finnoo on 14 August.
