According to the current plan, HSL will introduce zone E on 2 June 2026. Tickets for zone E will be available for purchase from that date. During the two-month transition period, it will still be possible to travel in zone E with a ticket that includes zone D. If an employee currently has a ticket that includes zone D, or if they will need zone E in their ticket in the future, this may require action from the employer as soon as the transition period begins.
Zone E will be introduced across all ticket types: single and day tickets, multi‑journey tickets, season tickets purchased as a one‑off, auto‑renewing subscriptions, and school passes.
Single-zone tickets covering only zone D will be removed from sale on 2 June 2026. After that, it will be possible to purchase tickets covering at least two zones, or to issue, for example, a voucher for either zones CD or DE, depending on which best suits the passenger’s travel needs. The change will not affect ticket prices; for example, CD and DE single tickets will cost the same as the current single ticket that only includes zone D.
All of Järvenpää will be in zone E. In Tuusula, zone E will include areas north of Jäniksenlinna and Terrisuo, such as Kellokoski and Jokela. Southern Tuusula will remain in zone D. The municipality of Sipoo will also remain within zone D. You can see the detailed boundaries of zone E on our website at hsl.fi/en/new-zone-e.
Please note that you can make changes to tickets from 2 June 2026 onwards.
What to do if you issue tickets used on an HSL card (e.g. service vouchers, tickets issued to employees, or school passes)
- From 2 June 2026, you can issue tickets covering at least two zones. If you previously issued a single-zone D ticket, from 2 June onwards, you must issue either a CD or DE ticket, depending on the recipient’s travel needs.
- We will provide separate instructions directly to the users of the tickets you have issued. You can also guide them using the instructions available on our website.
What to do if you have issued HSL Commuter Benefits as an auto-renewing season ticket in the HSL Business Portal (the employee uses the ticket in the HSL app)
You may need to make changes in the Business Portal, depending on which zones your employee’s ticket includes and whether they need to travel in zone E.
If your employee has a single-zone ticket for zone D, it will be automatically converted to a DE ticket on 2 June 2026. In the Business Portal, the ticket will still appear as a zone D ticket.
- Change the employee’s ticket zones from D to DE in the Business Portal as soon as possible after 2 June and before the start of the next 30‑day validity period.
- If the employee prefers a CD ticket instead of the automatically converted DE ticket, change the zones from DE to CD. The change will take effect at the start of the next 30‑day period.
- See the instructions: https://www.hsl.fi/en/for-companies/business-portal/hsl-business-portal-instructions-for-employers/edit-zonest
Tip! The zone D tickets of employees living in Kirkkonummi, Siuntio, Sipoo and Kerava will be converted to DE tickets. These employees are likely to want the ticket to be changed to a CD ticket.
Tip! If you have employees who live in Tuusula, discuss with them whether they wish to keep the DE ticket or have it changed to a CD ticket, depending on their travel needs.
If your employee currently has an ABCD, BCD or CD ticket, ask whether they need to travel in zone E.
- If they do not need zone E, no action is required.
- If they do need zone E, ask them to inform you as soon as possible in June. Update the ticket zones to include zone E. The change will take effect at the start of the next 30‑day period.
- See the instructions:https://www.hsl.fi/en/for-companies/business-portal/hsl-business-portal-instructions-for-employers/edit-zonest
- Example: the employee has a CD ticket and needs zone E. Change the ticket to a CDE ticket.
Tip! In practice, only employees living in northern Tuusula will need a ticket that includes zone E.
What to do if you have issued the HSL Commuter Benefit as a Mobility Budget or HSL Business Travel Mobility Budget in the Business Portal (the employee uses the ticket in the HSL app)
If your employee currently has a 360-day ABCD, BCD, CD or D ticket, or another ticket that expires after 2 August 2026, ask whether they need to travel in zone E.
- If they do not need zone E, no action is required.
- If they do need zone E, we will terminate the 360‑day ticket on a case‑by‑case basis at a time agreed between the employee, the employer and HSL’s Corporate Customer Service. We will refund the employer for the remaining days of validity, calculated using the daily price of a ticket that includes zone E. The employer will then add the refunded amount as mobility budget for the employee in the Business Portal. The employee can then purchase, for example, 30‑day season tickets that include zone E in the HSL app.
What to do when issuing school passes in the Business Portal
You can issue new school passes for the 2026–2027 school year in the Business Portal from Tuesday, 2 June 2026 at the earliest.
Zone E will also apply to school passes, so issue passes for the zones the pupil needs.
Tip! In Kirkkonummi, Sipoo, Siuntio and Kerava, issue CD school passes for the 2026–2027 school year. This is more likely to cover travel needs than a DE ticket.
Tip! In Tuusula, choose either a CD or DE ticket based on the pupil’s travel needs.
