Light Rail Carnival on 21 October

The first light rail line in the Helsinki region will start operating on Saturday 21 October. The opening ceremonies will be held at Aalto University in Otaniemi, Espoo. The first tram will depart from the Aalto University stop towards Itäkeskus at 9.20am.

Event stage program

8.45am Event begins. Performance by Hovimuusikko Ilkka and welcome speeches.

9.15am Opening ceremony with music from Retuperän WBK.

9.20am The first tram departs.

9.30am Hovimuusikko Ilkka performs a song about the light rail line.

9.45am Interview with Emma.

10.15am Performances by Hovimuusikko Ilkka and Retuperän WBK.

11am to 12am (noon) Music performed by Aalto DJs.

11.50am The winner of the AYY light rail name contest is published.

Program at Korkeakouluaukio

  • Coffee served from 9am
  • Aalto University Junior's Super Soap Bubbles and street chalk art workshops
  • AYY light rail name contest
  • Information, overall badges, tram reflectors and other small surprises at event stands
  • Guided tours: 45-minute tours start from the Väre main lobby (Otaniementie 14) at 10am, 10.30am and 11am. During the tours, you can explore Väre and the Harald Herlin Learning Centre.

HSL' s information points along the light rail line

HSL will set up information points in Keilaniemi, at the Aalto University, in Leppävaara, at Oulunkylä train station, at Viikki Science Park and in Itäkeskus. The information points are located near the light rail stops. You can visit the information points between 9.30am and 3pm to learn more about the light rail line and to ask other travel-related questions. There will be experts from both HSL and the light rail line operator Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd to answer your questions.
