Trams 6B, 7B and 9B to serve Hakaniemi from 31 March

Starting Monday 31 March, trams 6B, 7B and 9B will run to Hakaniemi from the direction of Sörnäinen and Kallio. There will be no changes to tram routes south of Hakaniemi, and passengers are still advised to use the Metro or buses for journeys between the city center and Hakaniemi. There will be changes to tram and bus routes serving Hakaniem until early November due to the construction of the Kruunusillat tramway on Siltasaarenkatu.

New temporary tracks will be completed between Hämeentie and Siltasaarenkatu at the end of March, enabling tram services from the direction of Sörnäinen and Kallio to Hakaniemi for the rest of the year. The trams will serve the “Kallion virastotalo” stops next to Ympyrätalo on Siltasaarenkatu.

Until Sunday 30 March, trams 7B and 9B will run to Sörnäinen, and tram 6B will not operate. Information about these service changes is available further down the page. For up-to-date routes and timetables, see the Journey Planner.

Trams 6B, 7B and 9B to serve Hakaniemi from 31 March

Starting Monday 31 March, trams 6B, 7B and 9B will run to Hakaniemi from the direction of Sörnäinen and Kallio but will not cross the Pitkäsiltä Bridge into the city center. If you are going to the city center, you must change to the Metro or a bus in Hakaniemi or Sörnäinen. 

Tram 6B will resume operating and run from Arabia to Hakaniemi. In Hakaniemi, the tram will terminate at the “Kallion virastotalo” stop on Siltasaarenkatu. From there, the tram will continue towards Ilmala under route number 9B. 

Tram 7B will run from Meilahti Hospital to Hakaniemi, to the “Kallion virastotalo” stop, following the normal route of tram 7. From there, it will proceed to its terminus on Ensi linja. 

Tram 9B will run from Ilmala to the “Kallion virastotalo” stop in Hakaniemi, following the normal route of tram 9. From Hakaniemi, the tram will continue towards Arabia under route number 6B.

 

Trams 6T from Eiranranta and 7T and 9T from the West Terminal run to Central Railway Station, journeys to Hakaniemi by Metro or bus

South of Hakaniemi, tram routes will remain unchanged from 3 March to November. The routes will not change on 31 March, but we will make minor adjustments to the timetables of trams 6T, 7T and 9T to improve the punctuality of services.

Trams 6T from Eiranranta and trams 7T and 9T from the West Terminal will run as usual as far as the Central Railway Station but will not continue over the Pitkäsilta Bridge to Hakaniemi. Passengers are advised to use the Metro or buses for journeys between the city center and Hakaniemi. 

Tram 6T from Eiranranta and tram 7T from the West Terminal will run to the Central Railway Station, from where they will continue via Kruununhaka to the Katajanokka Terminal. As the services to the terminal will be frequent, tram 5, which usually run to the terminal, will be temporarily withdrawn. 

Tram 9T will run from the West Terminal to the Central Railway Station following the normal route of tram 9. From the Central Railway Station, the tram will proceed via Aleksanterinkatu to the Market Square.

No trams will serve Hakaniemi between 3 March and 30 March

Beginning in early March, Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd will construct new temporary tracks between Hämeentie and Siltasaarenkatu to enable tram services from the direction of Sörnäinen and Kallio to Hakaniemi for the rest of the year. During the construction, there will be no tram services to Hakaniemi. 

During this time, passengers must change to the Metro or a bus in Sörnäinen or at the Central Railway Station to get to Hakaniemi.

The following route changes will take effect on 3 March:

  • Tram 3 will no longer run via Hakaniemi. It will be rerouted via Mannerheimintie between the city center and Alppila. 
  • Tram 6 from Arabia will not run during the service break. 
  • Tram 9B from Ilmala will run from Helsinginkatu to Sörnäinen, from where it will continue to Meilahti Hospital under route number 7B.
  • Tram 7B from Meilahti Hospital will run to Sörnäinen, from where it will continue under route number 9B.
  • Trams 6T, 7T and 9T will run south of Hakaniemi. Read more about these routes below.

Changes to bus routes from 3 March

Street work on Siltasaarenkatu also includes replacement of tram tracks

During the work on Siltasaarenkatu, the water and sewer systems and other old utility infrastructure, will be replaced. Additionally, the tram tracks on Siltasaarenkatu between Hakaniementori Market Square and the Pitkäsilta Bridge will be replaced, and new switches will be installed at the intersection of Siltasaarenkatu and Hakaniemenranta. The new switches will enable the new tram link to Laajasalo. Before the new tracks can be put into operation, test runs will be necessary. The work is part of the construction of the Kruunusillat tramway, which will connect Laajasalo, Korkeasaari, and Kalasatama to Hakaniemi in 2027.  

Beginning in early March, Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd will construct new temporary tracks between Hämeentie and Siltasaarenkatu to enable tram services from the direction of Sörnäinen and Kallio to Hakaniemi. The work will take about four weeks. The temporary tracks will be removed in October/November before the trams resume their normal routes to Hakaniemi.

The changes in Hakaniemi will remain in place until early November. Towards the end of the year, tram routes will also change in Taka-Töölö when the renovation of Mannerheimintie is completed.
