Changes to access routes and entrances at Kontula Metro Station from 2 June

The refurbishment of Kontula Metro Station is progressing. Due to the renovation work, the Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd will close the station's main entrance, located on the shopping center side of the station, for the duration of the summer. In the future, passengers can reach the bus stops on Kontulantie, served by bus 560, among others, by using the other entrances at the station. At the same time, the fully renovated western entrance will be opened. The middle entrance to the station will remain open as usual.

The main entrance on the shopping center side of the station will be temporarily closed due to the replacement of the escalators and the construction of stairs between the new escalators. Other improvements will also be made. For instance, the area in front of the doors will be retiled and the ceiling and lighting in the ticket hall replaced. In addition, improvements will be made to the facade of the station building.

The ground-level ticket hall in the station will be entirely closed during the renovation. However, Herkkukioski in the ticket hall will continue to serve customers for a brief period at the beginning of June. During the work, you can access the kiosk through the adjacent K-Supermarket. According to estimate, the ticket hall will remain closed for renovations until the end of September.

Changes to access routes will affect bus transfers at the station

In the future, you can access the Metro directly from the bus stop for buses arriving from Kontulankaari via the new western entrance.

The access route to the bus stops on Kontulantie, served by trunk bus 560, among others, via the main entrance on the shopping center side of the station will be closed temporarily. During the summer, you can reach these bus stops through the other entrances at the station. We recommend that you allow extra time when transferring between these stops and the Metro.

New signs will be put up at the station to help passengers find the bus stops and the route to the Metro. You can find all the available routes also in the Journey Planner.

An art wall will also be installed – only one track in use during the installation work

An art wall will be installed behind the metro tracks at the platform level to improve the atmosphere in the station.

The installation of the art panels and repair work on the drainage system under the tracks will take place between 30 June and 27 July. During this time, only one track will be in use at a time. From 30 June to 13 July, only the track usually used by eastbound Metro trains will be in use. After that, from 14 to 27 July, only the track usually used by westbound Metro trains will be in use.

The fact that the Metro trains will use the same track in both directions will not have a significant impact on the timetables for the Metro. The departure times of certain Metro trains may change by a few minutes.

The timetable changes caused by the work can be found in the Journey Planner about a month before the intended travel date. The end station of the next Metro train is displayed on the platform displays at the station and on the front of the Metro train. You can also find the information in the Journey Planner.

The art wall will be created in collaboration with Kontula Art School.
