Trams traveling to and from depots to be marked with H starting 8 September

Starting Monday, 8 September, trams traveling between depots and their regular routes will be marked with the letter H. These trams will be included in the Journey Planner’s route suggestions.

In the future, trams traveling to and from depots will be marked with the letter H, without a route number. The trams will take on passengers when traveling to their first stop or returning to the depot at the end of service.

For example, tram 7B, which runs from Meilahti Hospital to Kallio, will first travel from Ruskeasuo depot to Pasila station marked as H. At Pasila station, it will switch to its regular route number, 7B. The destination, “Linjat” will remain the same. On its return to the Ruskeasuo depot, tram 7B will first travel from Linjat to Pasila station under route number 7H and then continue to Ruskeasuo marked as H.

You can hop on a tram marked with H at any stop, as long as the destination is displayed on the front of the tram. Trams returning to a depot will take passengers to the stop nearest to the depot.

This change particularly benefits those living near depots, as trams marked with H will run in these areas during late-night and early-morning hours along routes that differ from regular tram routes. Following the change, transfer runs, for instance, between Ilmala and Ruskeasuo, will be open to passengers.

These trams will also be included in the Journey Planner search results.
