You can again board trunk route buses through the middle doors at night from 7 January 2026

Earlier this year, we launched a trial on the orange trunk route buses where boarding was allowed only through the front door at night. This trial will end on Wednesday, 7 January 2026. After that, you may once again board trunk route buses also through the middle doors at night. Please remember that you must always have a valid ticket when traveling on trunk route buses, just like on any other HSL public transport vehicle.

When the trial ends, trunk route buses operating at night will no longer be marked with the letter N. The buses will use the same route number regardless of the time of day. During the trial, the letter N was added to the route numbers of trunk buses operating at night.

The trial provided us with valuable insights into the operation of trunk route buses. Following the trial, we will add new information and clarify the current instructions on how to use trunk route buses. You can find these updated instructions at bus stops, among other locations.

During the trial that began in June, the nighttime boarding practices on trunk route buses were the same as on the regular blue buses. Passengers could board the buses only through the front door and were required to either show their ticket to the driver or purchase one at the card reader using contactless payment or an HSL card. The trial was conducted on trunk route buses 20, 30, 40, 200, 300, 400, 500, 510, 520, 530, 560, 570 and 600 at night approximately between 11pm and 5am.
