Less frequent Metro services and platform changes at Itäkeskus 22–25 June due to switch replacement work

Services will run every 10 minutes during peak hours, daytime and evening on both Metro lines. Between Itäkeskus and Tapiola, trains will run every 5 minutes. At Itäkeskus, trains will depart from different platforms than usual. Please follow station displays and announcements. Additional signage will be in place. All timetables are also available in the Journey Planner.

Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd is replacing track switches at Itäkeskus station, which will cause changes to departure platforms from Sunday 21 June 11pm until the end of service on Thursday 25 June.

During the work, Metro services will also run less frequently than usual on both lines. Trains will run to Vuosaari, Mellunmäki and Kivenlahti every 10 minutes during peak hours, daytime and early evening.

On the shared section between Itäkeskus and Tapiola, trains will run every 5 minutes.

Early in the morning and late in the evening, services will run to the normal timetable.

Changes to departure platforms at Itäkeskus from Sunday 21 June 11pm to Friday 26 June 0.15am

Trains to Kivenlahti via the city center (M1) and trains to Mellunmäki (M2) will depart from their usual platforms.

Trains to Vuosaari (M1) will depart from platform 3 (the middle track) instead of platform 1. The middle track is on the same platform as the track used by trains heading towards the city center.

Trains to Tapiola (M2) via the city center will depart from platform 1, which is typically used by eastbound trains. During the work, trains towards the city center will therefore depart from two different platforms, as trains to Kivenlahti will depart from the usual platform for westbound trains.

Please also note that both westbound trains to Tapiola and eastbound trains to Mellunmäki will depart from platform 1. Approximately every other train from this platform will run east (to Mellunmäki) and every other west (to Tapiola).

Please check station displays and listen to announcements at the station. Additional temporary signage will also be in place to guide passengers to the correct platforms.

Switch replacement will ensure smoother Metro services

Replacing switches will help ensure smooth Metro services and keep the station functional in the future.

Itäkeskus is a major Metro hub with more switches than a typical station. Consequently, repairing and replacing switches there takes longer.

Some of the switches have already been replaced in previous summers. The work is carried out in phases to avoid a complete shutdown of services. Most of the work takes place in summer, when passenger numbers are lower, and the impact is smaller.

Part of a wider renovation project

The switch replacement work at Itäkeskus is part of the renovation of Itäkeskus Metro Station carried out by Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd.
