Changes to Metro departure times and departure platforms at Itäkeskus from 6 to 16 July due to switch replacement work

The Metro is running at the usual frequency, but there are minor changes to departure times. In addition, at Itäkeskus, trains towards the city center and Kivenlahti (M1) use the middle track instead of the track normally used by westbound trains. We recommend that you check the departure times in the Journey Planner.

Changes to departure platforms at  Itäkeskus from Monday 6 July to Thursday 16 July

Trains to Tapiola via the city center (M2) and eastbound trains will depart from their usual tracks.

Trains to Kivenlahti via the city center (M1) will depart from track 3 (the middle track). During the works, trains towards the city center will depart alternately from two different tracks at Itäkeskus. The middle track is on the same platform as the track usually used by trains heading towards the city center.

Please check station displays and listen to announcements at the station.

Switch replacement will ensure smoother Metro services

Replacing switches will help ensure smooth Metro services and keep the station functional in the future.

Itäkeskus is a major Metro hub with more switches than a typical station. Consequently, repairing and replacing switches there takes longer.

Some of the switches have already been replaced in previous summers. The work is carried out in phases to avoid a complete shutdown of services. Most of the work takes place in summer, when passenger numbers are lower, and the impact is smaller.

Part of a wider renovation project

The switch replacement work at Itäkeskus is part of the renovation of Itäkeskus Metro Station carried out by Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd.
