Street works on Meritie will be completed by the end of September
The level of Meritie was raised to its final height as part of the street works carried out by the City of Espoo. Due to the works, Meritie has been closed to traffic for over a year. However, Meritie is now open to buses, cyclists, pedestrians and cars as an overpass at the station entrance.
A new bicycle parking station and a more direct access towards the properties on Syvänsalmenkatu have been built under the bridge, right next to the A entrance. The bicycle parking station will later be connected directly to the Espoo Baana cycling and pedestrian route. A short section of the route has already been built beneath the bridge as part of the Meritie street works. Beneath the Meritie bridge, there is also the Djupsundsbäcken urban stream, which flows through an open channel. Finishing works on the station entrance and the bus stops on Meritie, as well as the street works on Meritie, will continue until the end of September.
The new exit will make it easier to transfer between bus 533 and the Metro
The new A exit is located in the same building as the B exit to Meritie, located one floor down. You can reach the new A exit from the Metro via the same corridor, escalators and lifts as before. It was previously also possible to use the B exit to reach bays 21 and 22 served by bus 533. However, from now on, these bays can only be reached via exit A.
If you want to use the A exit and transfer to bus 533 via the Meritie bridge, go up one floor using the escalator or lift in the B exit entrance hall within the station. The accessible A exit is located on the upper floor opposite the escalators and the lift.
The new bus stops on Meritie (bays 21 and 22) will also be suitable for wheelchair users. The stops were relocated to a temporary location at the junction of Hylkeenpyytäjäntie and Hyljemäenportti on 10 August.
The B exit will also remain in use, providing a direct access beneath the Meritie bridge to the properties on Syvänsalmenkatu and to the new bicycle parking station under the bridge.
The City of Espoo will hold an opening ceremony on Meritie on Thursday 1 October, from 5pm onwards.
More information about the works and opening ceremony is available on the City of Espoo’s website.

Finishing works at the entrance currently underway
Prior to the opening of the new station entrance, temporary structures were dismantled and signs were updated.
– The second access route at the Meritie entrance was almost completed during the station’s construction, making it possible to open it once construction work in the area had progressed and passenger numbers had increased, says Janne Tuoma, Construction Director at Länsimetro Oy.
