People with reduced mobility

You are eligible for discounted travel if you live permanently in the HSL area and your mobility is impaired owing to a permanent injury or chronic disease.

If you are a wheelchair user, you do not need a ticket on HSL public transport.

A companion travelling with you does not need a ticket if you have a Companion Pass.

Discount on tickets

You can get a 50 per cent discount on tickets if your mobility is impaired owing to a permanent injury or chronic disease and you meet the conditions below. You can get discount on season, value and zone extension tickets if you pay using your personal HSL card.

Visit a service point to have the discount entitlement added to your HSL card. Please bring with you your HSL card, an ID document and a completed HSL discount ticket application form. In order to be eligible for the discount, you must live permanently in the HSL area.

Permanent injuries and chronic diseases that entitle you to a discount:

Injury of lower limbs, back or spinal cord, at least severe (disability category at least 11)
Respiratory or circulatory disease impairing your mobility, at least severe (disability category at least 11)
Brain injury or developmental disability, at leas severe (disability category at least 11)
Other mobility impairment, at least severe (disability category at least 11)

HSL discount ticket application form can be signed by a health center or private physician or a specialist. Residents of Kirkkonummi can get a certificate from a health center physician or a doctor at HUS or Jorvi.

On board

On all modes of transport, there are seats reserved primarily for people with reduced mobility. On buses and trams, the best places are in the middle.

If you cannot move fast, you can get off at the front. On buses and trams, the doors close automatically. When you use the pram button, the doors will stay open longer.

Commuter trains have doors that are marked with a wheelchair symbol. When you press the button marked with a wheelchair logo by these doors, a step will slide out and bridge the gap between the train and the platform.

Travelling with a rollator

Rollators can be carried on all modes of public transport. On buses, the weight capacity of the ramps is 300 kilograms.

If you are travelling with a rollator on a low-floor bus and you board the bus using the middle door, you do not need to show your HSL card to the card reader to register your season ticket. If need be, you can ask other passengers to help you to purchase a value or single ticket.

On low-floor trams and commuter trains you can show your HSL card to the card reader because there are card readers at all doors.

If you are travelling with a rollator and you have been unable to buy a ticket, the ticket inspector will not issue you a penalty fare; the inspector will buy you a value ticket using your HSL card or sell you a single ticket.

If you are unable to travel alone due to a chronic disease or disability, you may be entitled to a companion.
