Bank holidays and changes to public transport services

Below there is a list of all the dates when HSL public transport will operate according to special timetables. Please note that changes are possible for instance during school holidays or due to public events.

Monday 19 February – Friday 23 February 2024 School bus routes will not operate at all or run according to the timetables for the schools’ winter break.

Thursday 28 March 2024 On Maundy Thursday, a Friday service will operate. However, neighborhood bus routes will operate a Thursday service.
Friday 29 March 2024 On Good Friday, a Sunday service will operate. Additionally, night services will operate on the night between Good Friday and Holy Saturday.
Sunday 31 March 2024 The switch to summer time will take place on the night of Saturday 30 to Sunday 31 March at 3am. Services will operate to winter time (Saturday service). In other words, also early morning services will operate to winter time. On Easter Sunday, services will begin operating to summer time. In addition, on the night between Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, night services will operate.
Monday 1 April 2024 On Easter Monday, a Sunday service will operate.

Tuesday 30 April 2024 On Tuesday 30 April, a Friday service as well as additional services will operate. The Metro and commuter trains on the Ring Rail Line will run approximately two hours later than usual.
Wednesday 1 May 2024 On Wednesday 1 May, a Sunday service as well as additional services will operate.

Wednesday 8 May 2024 On the eve of Ascension Day, Wednesday 8 May, a Friday service will operate. However, neighborhood bus routes will operate a normal Wednesday service.
Thursday 9 May 2024 On Ascension Day, 9 May, a Sunday service will operate.

Saturday 1 June 2024 On the last day of school, school bus routes and night buses will run with additional services, if necessary. In addition, the Metro will run approximately two hours longer than usual.

Monday 3 – Friday 14 June 2024 School bus routes will not operate at all or run according to the timetables for the schools’ summer break once the summer break has begun.

Monday 17 June 2024 Switch to summer timetables.

Thursday 20 June 2024 On Thursday 20 June, a Friday service will operate. However, neighborhood bus routes will operate a normal Thursday service.
Friday 21 June 2024 On Midsummer Eve, Friday 21 June, a Saturday service will operate. However, starting from the afternoon, U-line buses will operate a reduced service.
Saturday 22 June 2024 On Midsummer Day, Saturday 22 June, a Sunday service will operate. Additionally, night buses will operate on the night between Friday 21 and Saturday 22 June. U-line buses will operate a reduced service.

Monday 12 August 2024 Switch to winter timetables.

Sunday 27 October 2024 Summer time, or Daylight Saving Time, ends and the clocks will go back at 4am. Services according to Saturday timetables will operate to summer time. In other words, also early morning services will operate to summer time. Beginning from Sunday morning, transport services will operate to winter time. If necessary, additional night services will operate.

Saturday 2 November 2024 On All Saints’ Day, Saturday 2 November, a Saturday service will operate. U-line buses will operate a Sunday service. There will be additional services to the Hietaniemi cemetery.

Friday 15 November – Saturday 14 December 2024 During the pre-Christmas holiday season, night buses will run with additional services on Fridays and Saturdays, if necessary. In addition, the Metro will run approximately two hours longer than usual.

Thursday 5 December 2024 On the eve of Independence Day, Thursday 5 December, a Friday service will operate. In addition, additional pre-Christmas services will be running. However, neighborhood bus routes will operate a normal Thursday service.
Friday 6 December 2024 On Independence Day 6 December, a Sunday service will operate. In addition, night bus services and additional pre-Christmas services will also be running.

Monday 23 December 2024 – Monday 6 January 2025 If necessary, buses, trams and the Metro will operate a reduced service during the holiday season between Christmas and Epiphany due to decreased demand. School bus routes will not operate at all or run according to the timetables for the schools’ Christmas holiday period. The Christmas holiday starts at different times depending on the municipality in question.

Tuesday 24 December 2024 On Christmas Eve, a Sunday service will operate. U-line buses will mainly operate according to Saturday timetables, but, starting from the afternoon, they will start operating a reduced service. Trams and commuter trains to Riihimäki and Lahti will operate a reduced service after 4pm. There will be additional services to the Hietaniemi cemetery.
Wednesday 25 December 2024 On Christmas Day, 25 December, a Sunday service will begin operating approximately at 11am. U-line buses and trams will operate a reduced service. Commuter trains will operate a reduced service on Christmas Day morning, and after 11am they will start operating a Sunday service. The Suomenlinna ferry will operate a Sunday service throughout the day.
Thursday 26 December 2024 On Boxing Day, a Sunday service will operate.

Tuesday 31 December 2024 On New Year’s Eve, a Friday service and additional night services will operate. The Metro and commuter trains on the Ring Rail Line will run approximately two hours later than usual. However, neighborhood bus routes will operate a normal Tuesday service.
Wednesday 1 January 2025 On New Year’s Day, a Sunday service will operate.

Sunday 5 January 2025 On the eve of Epiphany, January 5, a Sunday service will operate. In addition, night services will operate on the night between Sunday 5 and Monday 6.
Monday 6 January 2025 On Epiphany, a Sunday service will operate.

Monday 17 February – Friday 21 February 2025 School bus routes will not operate at all or run according to the timetables for the schools’ winter break.

Thursday 29 May 2025 On Ascension Day, a Sunday service will operate.

Saturday 31 May 2025 On the last day of school, school bus routes and night buses will run with additional services, if necessary. In addition, the Metro will run approximately two hours longer than usual.

Monday 2 June – Friday 13 June 2025 School bus routes will not operate at all or run according to the timetables for the schools’ summer holiday or summer timetables after schools’ summer holiday has begun.
