Street works on Helsinginkatu will move to the next phase on Monday 12 July. The works will move from the Kaarlenkatu junction to the corner of Läntinen Brahenkatu. Trams will return to Karhupuisto but there will be no tram service between the Opera and Urheilutalo nor in Alppila. Tram 1 will be on a lengthy diversion via Hakaniemi and Karhupuisto. Tram 3 will run to Linjat and tram 8 will run from the Opera via Mannerheimintie to Meilahti. Replacement bus 8X will start running from the Opera via Sörnäinen to Arabia. The bus will depart from the Mäntymäki Field (Mäntymäen kenttä). Trams 2 and 9 will resume their normal routes and replacement bus 2X will stop running. Regular tram service along Sturenkatu will end.
The next route changes will take effect on 30 August when the next phase of the works begins. From 3 October, all trams will be operating on their normal routes.

Tram 2 has been diverted since 7 June due to the construction of Ilmala tramway. The tram has been running from the Opera to St. Paul’s Church. Replacement bus 2X has been running between Lasipalatsi and Pasila.
Tram 2 will resume its normal route from the Olympia Terminal via Töölö to Pasila on 12 July. The tram will run via the Opera tram stop also from Pasila to the Olympia Terminal. Replacement bus 2X will stop running.

Replacement bus 8X, Opera (Mäntymäki)–Sörnäinen–Arabia
Replacement bus 8X will run from the Opera (Mäntymäki) via Sörnäinen (M) to Arabia. The bus will serve bus stops along the route. Some temporary bus stops will be set up.
The bus will depart from the Mäntymäki Field (Mäntymäen kenttä), from stop H1930. The stop is located at the south end of the field, close to the tram stops. At the Sörnäinen Metro Station, the bus will stop at stop H2411 (bay 16) in the direction of Arabia. In the direction of the Opera, the bus will stop at a temporary stop, “Harjutori” (H2151) on Helsinginkatu. In Arabianranta, the bus will depart from the same stop as bus 52 (H3490).

Alternative services
Bus 8 will replace trams 1 and 8 between Töölö and Sörnäinen. Buses 70 and 502 also provide alternative service. Trunk bus route 500 and 510 run from Sörnäinen via Aleksis Kiven katu to, for example, Töölöntulli and Meilahti.
Bus 23 runs from the Railway Square and Hakaniemi to Alppila. Tram 9 will resume its normal route along Aleksis Kiven katu from 12 July.
Alternative transport links to Linnanmäki
Where possible, use tram 9 or trunk route routes 500 and 510, which run along Aleksis Kiven katu. Bus 23 runs along Viipurinkatu.
To the south of Linnanmäki, you can use tram replacement bus 8X, crosstown route 502 and on weekdays bus 70 to Kamppi. Tram 3 depart from Ensi linja (about 500 meters from the southern gate).

The timetables for trams 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8 and 9 will change on 12 July. The timetables for all tram services will change on 16 August with the switch to autumn service.
Diversion routes later in the summer
Third phase of diversion routes caused by improvement works on Helsinginkatu, Caloniuksenkatu and Runeberginkatu, 30 August–3 October
The works will move westwards from Urheilutalo. Tram route 1 will be diverted via Hakaniemi until 3 October. Tram 8 will run only between Jätkäsaari and the Opera from 30 August to 3 October. Replacement bus 8X will run until 3 October. Tram 3 will resume its normal route on 30 August.
Tram 4 diverted 26 July–15 August
Tram 4 will be diverted due to bridge work on Paciuksenkatu. The tram will run to Pikku Huopalahti instead of Munkkiniemi. Replacement bus 4X, Opera (Mäntymäki)–Töölön tulli–Munkkiniemi
There will also be other street and track work projects over the summer that will cause minor changes to the services. Detailed information about individual service changes will be published in due course.
“Kasin katutyöt” street work project
The improvement of Helsinginkatu, Caloniuksenkatu and Runeberginkatu (“Kasin katutyöt”) started in January 2021 and the works will continue until spring 2023. Once the works are completed, walking and cycling in the area will be safer and more comfortable. The project involves the replacement of old water mains and other public utility infrastructure under the streets. It is reasonable to conduct the works in three areas under one project in order to minimize the time the services are disrupted for. The aim is also to speed up tram services.
