Many public transport diversions in downtown Helsinki on 4 June due to a parade of the Finnish Defence Forces

The national parade on the Flag Day of the Finnish Defence Forces will take place in Helsinki on Saturday 4 June. The parade will significantly affect public transport and passengers travelling from the direction of Mannerheimintie to the city center are advised to use commuter trains.

The parade will significantly affect public transport and passengers travelling from the direction of Mannerheimintie to the city center are advised to use commuter trains. During the parade, buses to/from Elielinaukio will run to Kamppi approximately between 11.30am and 3pm. There will also be major diversions to tram routes.

For example, there will be no tram services to the south of the Railway Square (Rautatientori) between 11.30am and 3pm. Those travelling from Eira in the direction of Kamppi can take trunk bus route 20 or 30, those travelling to Ruoholahti can use bus 22. Bus 3X will replace trams 2, 3, 4 and 5 in Eira and Katajanokka.

Unioninkatu, Snellmaninkatu, Mariankatu and Aleksanterinkatu will be closed to traffic between 10.30am and 3pm. Mannerheimintie, Helsinginkatu and Mäntymäentie will be partly closed (between Alekansanterinkatu and Helsinginkatu) between 12 noon and 3pm and traffic across Mannerheimintie will be blocked between Kaivokatu and Simonkatu between 12 noon and 3pm.

Changes to tram services

Tram routes will be diverted approximately from 10.15am, with the exception of trams 1, 8 and 9, which will be diverted approximately from 11.30am. Tram 7 will run as usual until 11.30am. However, it will not serve Kruunuhaka. Bus 4S will not run. 

Tram routes will be diverted as follows approximately from 10.15am:

  • Tram 1 (from 11.30am) will run from Käpylä via Sturenkatu and Helsinginkatu to Sörnäinen and via Mäkelänkätu back to Käpylä.
  • Tram 2 will run between Töölön kisahalli and Pasila station.
  • Tram 3 will run from Meilahti as usual to Kaisaniemi, from where it will return back to Meilahti.
  • Tram 4 will run from Munkkiniemi via Laakso to Pasila.
  • Tram 5 will not run.
  • Tram 6 will run from Arabia to Kaisaniemi and back.
  • Tram 7 will run from Pasila station to Kaisaniemi and back.
  • Tram 8 (from 11.30am) will run from Arabia via Sturenkatu and Helsinginkatu to Sörnäinen, from where it will return to Arabia via Hämeentie.
  • Tram 9 (from 11.30am) will run from Pasila station to Kaisaniemi as usual and back along the same route.
  • Tram 10 will run from Pikku Huopalahti via Laakso to Pasila

NB! The "Rautatientori" stop (H0342) on Mikonkatu served by trams 3, 6, 7 and 9 is not wheelchair and pram accessible. The closest accessible stops are in Hakaniemi and Kaisaniemenpuisto.

Changes to bus services

Elielinaukio will be closed to buses approximately between 11.30am and 3pm. Mannerheimintie will also be closed to buses between Helsinginkatu and Arkadiankatu. The “Hesperianpuisto”, “Töölön kisahalli”, “Kansaneläkelaitos” and “Töölön tulli” bus stops will not be served.

Buses 200, 321, 322, 332, 345, 411, 415, 421 and 436 will run to the Kamppi bus terminal via Runeberginkatu and Topeliuksenkatu. Trunk bus 40 will depart from the “Kamppi (M)” bus stop (bay 76 / H1237) on Fredrikinkatu. Northbound trunk buses 20 and 30 depart from the same stop as usual.

Buses 63, 455, 455A, 456, 456A, 457, 465, 280 and 848 to/from Kamppi will run in both directions via Runeberginkatu and Topeliuksenkatu.

Departure bays of buses normally departing from Elielinaukio at the Kamppi bus terminal:

  • 40: bay 47 on Fredrikinkatu
  • 200: bay 46
  • 332, 345: bay 49
  • 321, 322: bay 50
  • 411, 421: bay 51
  • 415, 436: bay 52

 

Bus 502 will also be diverted from Kisahalli onwards due to closed sections of street. The bus will run in both directions via Vauhtitie, Nordenskiöldinkatu, Reijolankatu and Mannerheimintie, i.e. Töölö will not be served.

Replacement bus 8X will run from Runeberginkatu via Topeliuksenkatu, Eino Leinon katu and Mannerheimintie back to Runeberginkatu. The “Töölöntori”, “Ooppera” and “Kaupunginpuutarha” stops will not be served.

The buses will serve all stops along the diversion route.

Transport links to harbors

Bus 3X will replace tram services to Katajanokka terminal and Olympia Terminal. The bus will run from Eteläranta, Bulevardi and Eteläesplanadi to Katajanokka. The stops closest to the Katajanokka terminal are on Vyökatu.

Between 11.30am and 3pm there will be no public transport services to the West Terminal. Replacement bus 8X runs to Saukonpaasi and this is the closest you can get to the terminal by public transport.
