Public transport over New Year

On New Year’s Eve, 31 December, a Friday service operates. The Metro and commuter trains run later than usual. On New Year’s Day, 1 January, a Sunday service will operate. Check up-to-date routes and timetables in the Journey Planner.

The Metro and light rail will run less frequently from 22 December

The Metro and light rail 15 will run less frequently during peak times:

  • Mon–Tue 22–23 December, Mon–Wed 29–31 December, Fri 2 January and Mon 5 January
  • The Metro will run every 7.5 minutes on both lines, M1 and M2 (every 3–4 minutes between Itäkeskus and Tapiola).
  • The light rail 15 will run approximately every 10 minutes.

 

Changes during the school holiday period, 23 December–6 January

During the Christmas school holiday, some buses will not operate and certain routes will have timetable changes. The start date of the Christmas school holiday varies by municipality.

 

On Christmas Eve, 24 December, a Sunday service will operate

On Wednesday, 24 December, a Sunday service will operate.

Changes to commuter train services on 24 December

  • R trains will run less frequently after 4pm.
    • From Helsinki: at 4.10pm, 5.10pm, 6.10pm, 7.10pm, 8.10pm, 9.10pm, 10.10pm, 10.40pm, 11.40pm and 0.40am.
    • From Riihimäki: at 3.55pm, 4.55pm, 5.55pm, 6.55pm, 7.55pm, 8.55pm, 9.55pm, 10.55pm and 11.55pm.
  • The H train from Siuntio to Helsinki has only one departure, at 4.42pm.
  • On Christmas Eve morning, the L train departs from Helsinki to Kirkkonummi at 4.03am.
  • The following train services will not operate:
    • T train from Helsinki at 4.21am
    • K train from Kerava at 4.05am

 

On Christmas Day, 25 December, a Sunday service will operate from approximately 11am

On Thursday, 25 December, a Sunday service will operate from approximately 11am.
Commuter trains will begin running already at 7am, but less frequently than normal.

  • Trams will run less frequently, approximately every 20 minutes.
  • Trams 7 and 9 will start running from the Helsinki Central Station to the West Harbour already at 9am.
  • Starting at 7am, commuter trains will run with reduced frequency and L and T trains will operate to special timetables. T trains on the main rail line will begin running early in the morning. From around 11.30 onwards, commuter trains will operate a Sunday service.
  • The Suomenlinna ferry will operate a Sunday service throughout the day.
  • U-line buses will operate a reduced service.

 

On Boxing Day, 26 December, a Sunday service will operate

On Friday, 26 December, a Sunday service will operate.

Changes to commuter train services on 26 December

  • The L train departs from Helsinki to Kirkkonummi at 4.03am.
  • The following train services will not operate:
    • T train from Helsinki at 4.21am
    • K train from Kerava at 4.05am
  • On the night of Friday, 26 December, extended night service will operate as on other weekends.

 

Tram services from 27 December

Trams will run less frequently, approximately every 12 minutes, on the following days:

  • 27 December, 29 December, 30 December, 31 December, 2 January, 3 January and 5 January

 

On New Year's Eve, 31 December, a Friday service will operate – extended service hours for commuter trains and the Metro

On Wednesday, 31 December, a Friday service will operate.

 

The Metro will run two hours longer than usual

  • The Metro will run every 15 minutes on both lines (M1 and M2) until the end of service.
  • Between Itäkeskus and Kivenlahti, the Metro will run every 7.5 minutes.

  • From Kivenlahti to Vuosaari at 1.16am
  • From Rautatientori (Railway Square) to Mellunmäki at 1.38am and to Vuosaari at 1.46am
  • From Kalasatama to Mellunmäki at 1.44am and to Vuosaari at 1.52am

Towards Kivenlahti

  • From Vuosaari at 1.07am
  • From Mellunmäki at 1.15am
  • From Kalasatama at 1.29am
  • From Rautatientori (Railway Square) at 1.36am

 

Commuter trains will run later than usual

  • I and P trains will run approximately two hours later than usual.
  • A trains will have extra departures, and the combined headway for A and L trains between Helsinki and Leppävaara will be 10–20 minutes.

  • P trains: Helsinki – Myyrmäki – Helsinki Airport – Tikkurila - Helsinki
    • From Helsinki: at 2.18am, 2.48am, 3.18am and 3.48am
    • From Helsinki Airport: at 2.52am, 3.22am, 3.52am and 4.22am
  • I trains: Helsinki – Tikkurila – Helsinki Airport – Myyrmäki – Helsinki
    • From Helsinki: at 0.36am, 1.06am, 1.36am and 2.06am
    • From Helsinki Airport: at 1.04am, 1.34am, 2.04am and 2.34am
  • A trains from Helsinki at 0.23am, 0.43am, 0.53am, 1.23am and from
    Leppävaara at 0.56am, 1.16am, 1.26am and 1.46am

Commuter trains will run with extra carriages approximately from 10pm to 5am.

On Monday, 5 December, a Friday service will operate

On Monday, 5 December, a Friday service will operate.

However, neighborhood bus routes will run according to Monday timetables.
