Trams to resume their normal routes in Jätkäsaari on 11 May

Trams 7 and 9 will resume their normal routes in Jätkäsaari and tram route 9T will stop operating on Monday, 11 May. Tram routes in Jätkäsaari have been affected by bridge works for five weeks.

Tram routes to Jätkäsaari and West Harbour changed on 7 April. The Jätkäsaari bridge renovation has progressed as planned, and trams will be able to resume their normal routes from Monday, 11 May.

During the diversions of trams 7 and 9, tram route 9T has operated to West Harbour, with the longer trams familiar from light rail 15. The tram runs via Central Railway Station, Kamppi and Ruoholahti. Tram 9T will stop operating when trams 7 and 9 resume their normal routes.

110-year-old bridge to be replaced

The 110-year-old bridge located on Jätkasaarenlaituri, south of Länsilinkki, will be replaced. The works include the construction of a new turning lane as well as the replacement of seawalls and utility infrastructure, including wires and cables. The works began in autumn 2024, and the new bridge is expected to be completed in late 2026. Tram routes will be diverted for five weeks, but at other times trams will run past the construction site as normal.

HSL plans the diversion routes and informs passengers about the service changes. We have planned the diversion routes with the aim that the works would cause as little disruption to passengers as possible

You can read more about the bridge renovation on the City of Helsinki’s website.
