Changes to stop names in Helsinki, Espoo, Tuusula and Siuntio from Monday 15 June

The names of some bus stops change on Monday, 15 June 2026 to better reflect the surroundings and describe the stop location. We are renaming stops, for example, in Laajasalo, Espoon keskus, Häriskivi, Järvenperä, Viikki and Malmi. Some of the name changes are related to the names of new tram stops for future tram services to Laajasalo. Some changes are made in response to customer feedback and suggestions.

The stops are listed below by city and neighborhood.

In the list, the first name, for example, “Lauri Mikonpojan tie”, stop H4095, is the previous name.

The stop numbers, locations and bus routes serving the stops will not change. To view the location and the buses serving each stop, click on the stop number listed after the old stop name. The link will direct you to the stop’s information in the Journey Planner.

The stop names have been updated in the Journey Planner.

However, updating the information at stops and onboard announcements may take a bit longer.

Espoo

Espoon keskus

  • “Espoon asema”, stops E6023 and E6024.
The new name is “Siltatori”. The previous stop name could be confused with other stops of the same name located closer to the access routes to the station. As many of the buses serving the Siltakatu area continue to stops closer to the station, the stop is renamed to avoid this confusion. The stops are currently out of use due to construction works in the area and are therefore not shown in the Journey Planner. The change is based on passenger feedback.

Järvenperä

  • “Auroranportti”, stops E6343 and E6344.
The new name is “Auroranmäenpolku”. The new name has been taken from the name of a nearby cross street.

  • “Karamzinin koulu”, stops E6336 and E6347.
The new name is “Karamzininpuisto”. The new name has been taken from the name of a nearby park. The old name referred to a school, which is not directly next to the stops. In addition, the stop closest to the school is the next stop, previously called “Karamzininpuisto”. The new name of this stop is “Karamzininkenttä”.

  • “Karamzininpuisto”, stop E6345.
The new name is “Karamzininkenttä”. The new name has been taken from the name of a nearby sports field.

Olarinmäki

  • “Itäportti”, stops E3241 and E3242.
The new name is “Päiväkehräntie”. The new name is based on the name of the street next to the stops. The change is based on passenger feedback.

Helsinki

Alppikylä

  • “Suurmetsäntie”, stops H3409 and H3410.
The new name is “Haukkakatu”. The previous name could be confused with other stops of the same name located on Suurmetsäntie. In addition, these two pairs of stops are served by the same buses, meaning that some buses pass two stops with the same name in succession. The change is based on passenger feedback.

Laajasalo, Kruunuvuorenranta, Yliskylä

Future tram services to Laajasalo will bring significant changes to public transport services in Laajasalo, Merihaka, Korkeasaari and Sompasaari. Entirely new tram stops will be introduced, along with new stop names, for the new services.

To prepare for these changes, the names of bus stops near the new tram stops are changed in advance to match the future tram stop names. This will make transfers between buses and trams easier once the tram services begin and help ensure that stops sharing the same location have consistent names. However, some bus stop names in areas such as central Yliskylä and along the current tram route 13 will remain unchanged.

In addition to Laajasalo, the new tram stop names will also affect certain bus stops in Mustikkamaa and Merihaka. See the sections below for more details on these areas.

  • “Gunillantie”, stops H4317 and H4530.
The new name is “Gunillankallio”. It is derived from the name of a nearby area. “Gunillankallio” is already used as a destination name for bus route 84 and is located close to these stops. It will also be the name of the tram stops at the same location once tram services begin.

  • “Haakoninlahdenkatu”, stops H4695 and H4697.
The new name is “Hopealaakso”. It is derived from the name of a nearby area and daycare. It will also be the name of the tram stops at the same location once tram services begin.

  • “Koirasaarentie”, stops H4975, H4977 and H4978.
The new name is “Yliskylänkulma”. It will also be the name of the tram stops at the same location once tram services begin. The new name is based on suggestions from local residents and passengers using these stops, gathered by HSL through interviews last winter.

  • “Lauri Mikonpojan tie”, stops H4095 and H4096.
The new name is “Reiherintie”. It is derived from the name of a nearby, well-known street in the Laajasalo area. In the future, the stop will be an important interchange between buses and trams running along Reiherintie towards the Jollaksentie junction. Highlighting Reiherintie in the stop name will make interchanging easier once tram services to Laajasalo begin. “Reiherintie” will also be the name of the tram stops at the same location once tram services begin.

Malmi

  • “Viljakuja”, stops H3437 and H3438.
The new name is “Kaviopolku”. It is derived from the name of the adjacent street. The previous name referred to a street that has since been renamed Viljatie. As there are already other stops named “Viljatie” in the HSL area, in Sipoo, the stops in Malmi have been renamed based on another nearby street to avoid confusion.

Merihaka

  • “Merihaka”, stops H2513 and H2524.
The new name is “Näkinsilta”. It is derived from the name of the nearby overpass. The previous name “Merihaka” will be used in the future for tram stops located in Merihaka. The bus stops are renamed to avoid confusion with these tram stops, as the bus stops are located some distance away from them.

Mustikkamaa (Korkeasaari)

  • “Korkeasaari”, stop H4033.
The new name is ”Korkeasaarensilta”. It is derived from the name of the nearby bridge to Korkeasaari.

Viikki, Viikinmäki

  • “Bysantinkuja”, stops H3213 and H3214.
Only the Swedish stop name changes. The new Swedish name is “Bysansgränden”. The previous name was "Bysantsgränden". The city has recently updated the Swedish spelling of the path after which the stops are named, and the stop names are adjusted accordingly. The change is based on passenger feedback.

  • “Viikki”, stops H3034 and H3035.
The new name is “Viikki/Lahdenväylä”. Lahdenväylä has been added to the name, as the stops are located along Lahdenväylä on the edge of the Viikki area. For many passengers travelling to Viikki, the previous name may have given a misleading impression of the stops’ location. The new name follows the two-part naming convention already used for similar stops along Itäväylä.

Siuntio

Suitia

  • “Suitiantien risteys”, stop So3070.
Only the Swedish stop name changes. The stop has previously not had a Swedish name. The new name is "Svidjavägens korsning".

Tuusula

Häriskivi

  • “Vesitorni”, stops Tu6900 and Tu6901
The new name is “Häriskiventie”. The previous name did not clearly indicate the location for those unfamiliar with the area, as the water tower it referred to has been demolished. The new name is taken from a nearby street that runs through the area and links the stop to the new Häriskivi residential area. The change is based on passenger feedback.

Ruskela

  • “Ruskelan koulu”, stop Tu6394.
The new name is “Lounakuja”. The previous name did not clearly indicate the location for those unfamiliar with the area, as the school it referred to no longer exists. The new name is derived from the name of the nearby path.

Rykmentinpuisto

  • “Patteristontie”, stops Tu6594 and Tu6595.
    The new name is “Varuskunnantie”.
