Transport Service Plan 2023-2024

Most of the changes will take effect at the start of the autumn timetable season in August 2023. Our Executive Board approved the plan on 24 January 2023.

Timetable seasons

The timetable seasons 19 June 2023–16 June 2024 are:

• Summer timetable season 19 June to 13 August 2023

• Winter timetable season 14 August 2023 to 16 June 2024

Especially in the neighboring municipalities, it may be necessary to deviate from the above timetable seasons by a few days in cases when the school year begins before the actual winter service begins.

Special timetables

Special timetables will be in place on the dates specified below. Please note that changes are possible, for example, due to school holidays and large public events.

Previously approved bus route plans will be implemented

Trunk bus routes 520 and 530

New trunk bus routes 520, Matinkylä (M)–Suurpelto–Leppävaara–Myyrmäki–Martinlaakso, and 530, Matinkylä (M)–Finnoo (M)–Espoon keskus–Myyrmäki will start operating.

There will be changes to other bus routes with the introduction of trunk bus routes 520 and 530. Current routes 134, 136, 118, 531B, 532, 543, 555 and 565(B) will be withdrawn. In addition, there will be changes to bus routes 224, 531 and 544.

Trunk route buses do not have as many stops as other bus services in order to make travel smooth.

Changes in areas around Espoon keskus

New crosstown bus route 544

Route Network Plan for Tapiola and Leppävaara

We will implement the changes set out in the Route Network Plan for Tapiola and Leppävaara in August 2023. Many of the changes are related to the launch of light rail line 550 and trunk bus route 520.

Changes to bus routes in Laajasalo

There will be changes to bus routes in Laajasalo because the population in the area is increasing and there are several construction projects underway that affect bus services in the area. The full effects are not yet known. Any changes or revisions to the plans will be decided on a case-by-case basis.

Other changes to bus services

Metro services

Metro services were extended from Matinkylä to Kivenlahti on 3 December 2022. There are no planned changes to the metro services but construction projects may cause service changes.

Tram services

We are preparing for the launch of light rail line 550 in late 2023. The light rail will run from Itäkeskus to Keilaniemi. The service will start operating once there are enough vehicles and drivers.

There will also be changes to tram routes in central Helsinki. The exact time of the changes is not yet known.

Commuter train services

There will be no major changes to commuter train services in 2023–2024. However, track works will cause plenty of service changes.

Suomenlinna ferry services

There are no planned changes to Suomenlinna ferry services.

Service changes due to street and track works

There will be a number of service disruptions to commuter train services to the west of Leppävaara on weekends in 2023 and 2024 due to the construction of the Espoo city rail link. Trains will be replaced by buses.

Switch work in Tikkurila will cause service changes from spring 2023 to autumn 2023. Trains will operate a reduced service between Helsinki and Kerava as well as on the Ring Rail Line. In addition, some trains may be cancelled and replaced by buses at night time.

Construction works may cause changes to the metro services but the exact times and effects are not yet known.

Improvement works on Mannerheimintie will cause diversions to bus and tram routes from spring 2023. The diversions are expected to continue until late 2025. The diversion routes will change according to the phase of the works. Buses to/from Elielinaukio will run along Mannerheimintie throughout the works, but there may be delays to the buses.

The works on the Kalasatama–Pasila light rail line are progressing. This year, the works will affect services from spring to autumn, disrupting tram services to Itä-Pasila and Käpylä. Tram routes 1, 2, 7 and 9 will be diverted. Tram services from Mäkelänkatu to Pasila will be replaced by buses.

Construction works will continue in Laajasalo and Herttoniemi. In Laajasalo, works are underway to construct a tramway as well as new streets and buildings. The works may cause delays and diversions to bus services, for example, in Kruunuvuorenranta. The works on the Kruunusillat tramway will also affect traffic in Hakaniemi.

Construction works around the Leppävaara bus terminal will begin in early 2024. The works will affect bus parking and departure stops. The location of a temporary bus terminal and the timing of the changes will be confirmed later.
