Nurmijärvi Route Network Plan

The Nurmijärvi Municipal Council has decided to apply for HSL membership, which would begin no later than 1 January 2029. The current transport service contract will terminate at the end of 2028.

Following the decision, HSL and the Municipality of Nurmijärvi are preparing a public transport route network plan for Nurmijärvi. The planning will examine what kind of public transport connections would best serve Nurmijärvi as part of the HSL public transport system from the beginning of 2029.

The planning covers the whole of Nurmijärvi. It looks at local journeys within the municipality as well as connections to Helsinki, Vantaa, Hyvinkää and Tuusula.

What are we planning now?

HSL and Nurmijärvi are currently gathering information about how people travel within Nurmijärvi and between Nurmijärvi and other areas. The planning draws on information on, for example, existing public transport services, residents’ travel needs, schools, workplaces, services, passenger numbers and costs.

The aim is to determine what kind of public transport connections Nurmijärvi will need in the future.   Among other things, the planners will assess the service needs in different areas, smoothness of travel, ease of interchanging, and how the services can be organized in practice.

At this stage, no decisions have yet been made on future routes, stops, service frequencies or operating hours. These will be determined once different options have been drawn up and assessed.

Easier journey planner with HSL

If Nurmijärvi becomes an HSL member, you will be able to plan your journeys using the HSL Journey Planner and buy your tickets using the HSL app. You will also find timetables, routes and information about any service disruptions in the same HSL services.

This will make it easier to travel from Nurmijärvi to other parts of the HSL area, and vice versa. You can use an HSL ticket for your entire journey, depending on the zones you travel in.

If your journey is affected by a disruption or a diversion, for example, you will find information about it in HSL’s services in the same way as for other HSL public transport services.

Participate and follow the progress of the planning process

HSL and Nurmijärvi will gather information throughout the planning process about how Nurmijärvi residents travel and what kind of public transport connections they need in their daily lives. We will use this information to identify important connections and compare different options.

Complete our survey and tell us about your travel needs

In October 2026, we will launch a short survey for Nurmijärvi residents and people who regularly travel in the area. The survey will provide us with additional information on travel and transport needs in the area, supplementing the public transport survey conducted by the Municipality of Nurmijärvi in 2025.

We will add a link to the survey on this page when it opens.

There will be a separate round of consultation on the draft route network

We are provisionally planning to publish the draft route network for feedback at the end of 2026/early 2027. The draft will then be revised before the Municipality of Nurmijärvi issues its official statement and HSL makes its decision.

You can give feedback throughout the planning process

The survey and other feedback will help us understand which connections are important to Nurmijärvi residents in their daily lives. You can also give feedback through our customer service as the planning progresses.

We will use the feedback when assessing different options and preparing the route network plan together with the Municipality of Nurmijärvi. The planning will also take into account passenger numbers, costs and the practical feasibility of operating the services.
