West Helsinki Route Network Plan
Once completed, new tram links will transform public transport in West Helsinki. Light rail line 14, running from Kannelmäki via Lassila, Haaga, Munkkiniemi and Meilahti to the city center, will serve as the main connection to the city center.
The West Helsinki bus network will be reorganized in phases once the tram services start operating in the early 2030s.
HSL's Executive Board will discuss the Route Network Plan on 26 May 2026.
Our goal is to provide public transport links that meet the travel needs of passengers in West Helsinki once the light rail line 14 starts operating. To manage operating costs, we will adjust the current bus network so that it will serve as extensive an area as possible without overlapping trunk bus and tram connections.
On this website, you can follow the progress of the planning.

How can you participate and follow the progress of planning?
The route network plan has now progressed to the decision-making stage, and the HSL Executive Board will decide on its approval in May 2026.
In developing the draft, we have drawn on our existing comprehensive customer insight as well as the results of additional resident surveys.
In November, we participated in resident workshops organized as part of the West Helsinki Light Rail project.
