The new zone E is here

The new zone E includes Järvenpää and the northern parts of Tuusula.

On this page, you’ll find up-to-date information about the new zone, including tickets, zone boundaries and the implementation schedule.

Transition period

During the transition period from 2 June to 2 August 2026, you can travel in zone E with a ticket that includes zones ABCD, BCD, CD and D. During the transition period, the card reader may incorrectly show that you have the wrong ticket when boarding. However, you can ignore this and board anyway.

The purpose of the transition period is to give customers time, if needed, to change their valid zone D tickets to tickets that include zone E before the end of the transition period. See detailed instructions at the end of this page.

The sale of tickets for zone D only ended on 2 June 2026. From now on, when traveling in zone D, you must have a ticket that includes at least zones CD or DE.

Which areas are included in zone E?

All of Järvenpää will be in zone E.

In Tuusula, zone E will include areas north of Jäniksenlinna and Terrisuo, such as Kellokoski and Jokela. Southern Tuusula will remain in zone D.

The municipality of Sipoo will also remain within zone D.

Ainola, Järvenpää, Saunakallio, Jokela and Haarajoki train stations are in the new zone E.

Ticket prices in zone E

We will add new tickets covering all five zones to our range of tickets. The introduction of zone E will not affect the prices of other tickets.

Tickets that include only zone D will be removed from sale on 2 June. In the future, if you travel to zone D, you will need at least a ticket that covers zones CD or DE. Two-zone tickets will cost the same as the current single-zone ticket for zone D.

Do you have a ticket that is valid after 2 August, and you plan to travel in zone E?

Some tickets that include zone D will be automatically converted into tickets that include zone E. In some cases, you must contact HSL customer service during the transition period, while in other cases you can change your ticket yourself. Please see below what you should do with your ticket.

These tickets will be automatically changed to tickets that include zones DE.

Please contact HSL customer service before 2 August 2026 if you have one of the following tickets

You have a ticket in the HSL app that will be valid after 2 June. You need to include zone E in your ticket.

An auto-renewing saver subscription for zones ABCD, BCD or CD. The subscription has been valid for less than 12 months.
A 360-day ABCD, BCD or CD ticket that has been purchased before 2 June 2026.

You have a ticket on your HSL card that will be valid after 2 June. You need to include zone E in your ticket.

A 360-day ABCD, BCD, CD or D ticket.
A 90-day ABCD, BCD, CD or D ticket.
Free ticket for zones ABCD.

You have a QR code ticket and need to include zone E in your ticket.

An ABCD, BCD, CD or D ticket, and you start your journey in zone E. If you start your journey in zone D, you can activate your ticket as usual.

You have a ticket on your HSL card that will be valid after 2 June. You don’t need to include zone E in your ticket.

360-day zone D ticket. You can continue travelling normally within zone D during the transition period. Please contact customer service by 2 August, and your ticket can be changed to a zone CD ticket.

Changes to QR code tickets can only be made at service points. If you have purchased your ticket via HSL Corporate Sales, please contact Corporate Sales.

You can make changes to your ticket yourself in the HSL app before 2 August if you have one of the following tickets

You have a ticket in the HSL app. Zone E will be automatically added to some tickets on 2 June, whereas in some cases you can add it yourself. You can remove zone E in the HSL app before 2 August.

An auto-renewing subscription for zone D. The ticket is automatically converted into a DE ticket, but you can change it, for example, to a CD ticket from the start of the next 30-day period.
An auto-renewing saver subscription for zone D. The ticket is automatically converted into a DE ticket, but you can change it, for example, to a CD ticket from the start of the next 30-day period.
An auto-renewing subscription for zones ABCD, BCD or CD. You can add zone E to your ticket the next time you renew your subscription.
An auto-renewing saver subscription for zones ABCD, BCD or CD. Your ticket has been valid for over 12 months, and you need a ticket for zone E. You can change your ticket the next time you renew your subscription. Please note that the price will change in accordance with the new zones.
A 14-day, 30-day or 60-day ABCD, BCD, CD or D ticket. You can change your ticket the next time you renew your subscription. Your ticket has been purchased before 2 June 2026.

In these cases you don’t need to contact customer service or make changes to your ticket

You have a ticket in the HSL app or on your HSL card and you won’t be traveling in zone E.

Your ticket will work as usual during the transition period. After the transition period, you can use it to travel in the zones it covers. For example, if you have an ABCD season ticket, you can only use it to travel in zones ABCD after the transition period. The ticket will not be valid for zone E. If needed, you can buy a single ticket that includes zone E and add it to your season ticket.
