Johanna Wallin appointed Director of Transport and Päivi Alakuijala Director of Communications

HSL’s Executive Board elected two new directors in its meeting on 1 March. Johanna Wallin, who has a Master’s degree in transportation and highway engineering, was appointed to the position of Director of Transport for the Transport division, and Päivi Alakuijala, who has a Master’s degree in consumer economics, was appointed Director of Communications of the Communications division. The directors of HSL’s divisions report to Executive Director Mika Nykänen. The new directors will begin in their respective positions on 1 April.

There was a lot of interest towards the open director positions and we had several competent applicants who were interested in building better public transport services for our customers. I congratulate Johanna and Päivi on their new roles and welcome them to the HSL team”, says Executive Director Mika Nykänen.

Johanna Wallin, 37, is currently working at HSL as the acting Director of Public Transport Planning Department. Wallin has worked at HSL for eight years, her previous position being the Head of Group for Rail Service Planning. Prior to HSL, Wallin has worked at WSP as a Project Manager.

Päivi Alakuijala, 54, is currently working as a communications entrepreneur. Alakuijala has previously worked as a journalist, communications consultant, Communications Manager of Posti and Head of Marketing and Communications of Caverion.

As of 1 April, HSL will have six divisions: Administration (director: Ilmari Mäkinen), Strategy (director: Sini Puntanen), Transport (director: Johanna Wallin), Markets (director: Mari Flink), Technology (director: Hannu Heikkinen) and Communications (director: Päivi Alakuijala).
