Track work related to the Espoo Rail Line project carried out by the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency will cause disruptions to train services on the Coastal Line in spring, summer and autumn this year. In summer, commuter train services will be disrupted for five weeks from 22 June. In spring, disruptions will mainly occur on weekends in May and will last for approximately one day at a time. There will also be shorter service disruptions of one to two days in September and October.
During the disruptions, there will be no train services west of Leppävaara. Westbound train services from Leppävaara will be replaced by buses. E, U, L and Y trains will not run. The disruptions will also affect long-distance train services on the Coastal Line. Timetables and routes for train replacement buses are available in the Journey Planner.
During the service disruption from 22 June to 26 July, X trains will operate between Helsinki and Leppävaara, running every 15 minutes between Helsinki, Pasila, Ilmala, Huopalahti and Leppävaara. in addition, A train services are suspended from 1 June to 9 August. During this period, trains will not stop at Valimo, Pitäjänmäki and Mäkkylä stations. E and U trains will run as usual from 1 June to 21 June and from 27 July to 9 August, and will also stop at Ilmala. L trains will be replaced by U trains. During the service disruptions in May, September and October, A trains will run between Helsinki and Leppävaara every 10 minutes. In addition, Tuomarila station will be closed from 22 June to 4 October.

The Espoo Rail Line project carried out by the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency entails the construction of two new tracks between Leppävaara and Kauklahti. The service disruptions are necessary for the project to progress, as they allow work to be carried out on the existing tracks. This work will continue in the coming years. As a result, train services will in the future run every 10 minutes from Helsinki to Kauklahti instead of Leppävaara, as currently.
Train services will be replaced by buses

During the disruptions, train services west of Leppävaara will be replaced by buses. The replacement buses take passengers to train stations or nearby areas.
Replacement buses:
- 211E, Leppävaara–Kauniainen–Espoo–Kauklahti
- 211U, Leppävaara–Kauniainen–Espoo–Kauklahti–Kirkkonummi
- 213X, Elielinaukio–Turunväylä–Espoo
- 248X, Leppävaara–Kauniainen–Espoo–Kauklahti
- 249Y, Leppävaara–Turunväylä–Espoo–Ring III–Kirkkonummi
During the service disruptions, train services will be replaced by buses 211E, 211U, 213X, 248X and 249Y. Bus 211E will run between Leppävaara and Kauklahti, and bus 211U between Leppävaara and Kirkkonummi in the early morning and late evening. Bus 248X will provide a fast connection from Leppävaara via Tuomarila and Espoon keskus to Kauklahti. Bus 249Y will run from Leppävaara via Tuomarila and Espoon keskus to Kirkkonummi. Buses 211E and 211U will stop at all intermediate stations or near the stations. Buses 248X and 249Y will run from Leppävaara along Turunväylä to Espoon keskus, from where bus 248X will continue to Kauklahti and bus 249Y to Kirkkonummi. Bus 213X will provide a fast connection along Turunväylä between Helsinki, Koivuhovi, Tuomarila and Espoon keskus.
Replacement buses have open fare collection. Bicycles are not allowed on replacement buses because there is no space to carry them safely.
The journey times of rail replacement buses can be significantly longer than those of trains. In most cases, bus journey times are 10–20 minutes longer than by train, but on long journeys, the increase in journey time may be more than 30 minutes.

Other alternative transport links
During the service disruptions on the Coastal Line, buses and the Metro will run as usual. For example, the Metro provides an alternative transport link from Espoo to Helsinki. Several bus routes also provide frequent feeder services to the Metro stations.
Other transport links during the service disruptions:
- During the five-week train service disruption in the summer, bus 182Y will provide a new direct connection between Siuntio and Kirkkonummi, all the way to Matinkylä.
- Services bus route 911 will be increased, and the bus will also operate on weekends to ensure smooth connections between Kirkkonummi and Kauklahti station at times when replacement bus 211U is not operating.
- During the service disruption in the summer, buses 212 and 213 will operate later than usual on weekday evenings. Bus routes 213N and 242 will not operate on weekdays.
- Frequent bus services to Metro stations:
- Buses 548 and 549 from Kauniainen to Tapiola
- Bus route 118 from Espoon keskus and Tuomarila to Urheilupuisto and Tapiola
- Trunk bus route 530 from Espoon keskus via Finnoo to Matinkylä
- Buses 171, 173 and 173Z from Kirkkonummi to Matinkylä
- Buses 162 and 165 from Kauklahti via Saunalahti to Espoonlahti
- Trunk bus route 200 runs along Turuntie from Espoon keskus via Leppävaara to Helsinki city center
Buses 224K and 224X will provide additional service while Tuomarila station is closed
Tuomarila station will be closed from 22 June to 4 October due to construction works at the station. During the closure, Tuomarila will be served by regular bus services. In addition, buses 224K and 224X will provide additional service, particularly to Koivuhovi and Espoo stations. The buses will run every 30 minutes, and their timetables are coordinated with bus 224.
Bus 224X will start operating after the five-week disruption on the Coastal Line on Monday 27 July. The bus will run between Koivuhovi, Espoon keskus and Tuomarila. It will operate daily from 27 July to 9 August. From 10 August to 4 October, the bus will run only on weekends.
Bus 224K will start operating on 10 August. It will replace some services of bus 224B and run between Koivuhovi, Espoon keskus and Tuomarila.

Other changes to commuter train services in the summer
There will also be other changes to commuter train services in the capital region in summer 2026. Malminkartano, Kannelmäki and Pohjois-Haaga stations will undergo renovation and train services will be suspended between Huopalahti and Myyrmäki. In addition, renovations of Puistola and Tapanila stations will affect main line services.

Other train service changes in summer 2026
- 3 May–6 September: Malminkartano station will be closed, and there will be no train services at the station.
- 1 June–9 August: I and P trains will not run between Helsinki and Myyrmäki; Malminkartano, Kannelmäki and Pohjois-Haaga stations will be closed.
- 1 June–9 August: I, P and K trains will operate a reduced service. I trains towards Helsinki Airport will not stop at Pukinmäki, Malmi, Tapanila and Puistola stations.
- 22 June–26 July: Trains will not run west of Leppävaara due to the construction of the Espoo Rail Line. There will be no train services between Leppävaara and Siuntio.
Espoo Rail Line project
The Espoo Rail Line project entails the construction of two new tracks between Leppävaara and Kauklahti. Once completed, the rail link will improve the punctuality of commuter train services in Kirkkonummi and Espoo as well as the punctuality of long-distance train services in the direction of Turku. In addition, improvements will be made to the Kilo, Kera, Kaunainen, Koivuhovi, Tuomarila and Kauklahti train stations. The project started in spring 2021 and it is scheduled to be completed in 2029.
