The changes are due to the ongoing renovation of Mäkelänkatu. Over the summer, tram stops will be refurbished and tracks will be replaced, which is why trams 1 and 7 will be diverted. Bus services will continue to run along Mäkelänkatu as usual. You can reach Pasila by changing from a bus to tram 13 at the “Velodromi” stop.
During the summer, tram route 1 will operate as route 1T to the West Harbour instead of Eira. This change is due to the high number of ferry passengers traveling to and from the West Harbour.
Changes to tram services from Monday, 1 June
- The terminus of tram 1T will move to Paavalinkirkko in Vallila. The tram will run daily to the West Harbour. Tram 1 to Eira will not operate during the summer.
- Tram 7 will run between Sörnäinen and Pasila via Helsinginkatu, Läntinen Brahenkatu and Aleksis Kiven katu.
- Tram 8T will operate daily to West Harbour. Only night tram 9N will serve the Tahitinkatu terminus.
- There will be minor timetable changes for all tram routes.
You can find detailed routes and timetables in the Journey Planner
The next change to tram services will be the switch to summer timetables on Monday, 15 June. There will be route changes on Monday, 31 August, when trams return to Mäkelänkatu and tram 1 resumes service to Eira.

Renovation of Mäkelänkatu brings improvements for public transport
The renovation includes replacing municipal infrastructure and improving traffic arrangements between Kumpulantie and Hämeentie. Tram stops are being refurbished, and bus stop arrangements will also be improved. The works began in late 2025 and will take two years.
At the same time, Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd is replacing the tram overhead line system in Käpylä. The works have been scheduled to take place simultaneously to minimize disruption to passengers.
HSL plans the diversion routes and provides information on service changes. Add your favorite routes in the HSL app and enable notifications to receive updates about any changes immediately.
More information about the renovation of Mäkelänkatu is available on the City of Helsinki's website.
