Comment on the proposed new bus routes for Laajasalo

We have developed a draft plan for new bus routes for Laajasalo for 2027. Tram services will start running via Kruunusillat Bridges to Laajasalo approximately in early 2027 and consequently, bus routes serving the area need to be reviewed. In planning the proposed routes, we have listened to people who live or travel in the area.

Tram services scheduled to start running via Kruunusillat Bridges in 2027

Tram services are expected to start running via Kruunusillat Bridges in 2027. Our Executive Board decided on the routes and service frequencies of the services in December 2021. The routes and service frequencies of the tram services provide baseline data and boundary conditions for the planning of bus routes in Laajasalo, and this plan does not propose changes to these. The service frequencies of the trams affect the service frequencies of buses because bus and tram timetables will be aligned.

Proposed bus routes for Laajasalo in 2027

A draft bus route plan for Laajasalo approximately for 2027 when the Kruunusilta tram services have started running. Light rail line 12 will provide links from Laajasalo to the city center.

Proposed changes by route

Bus route 84 to be withdrawn

Bus route 85: changes to the route and service frequency

There will be a minor change to the route of bus 85. In the future, the bus will go straight along Laajasalontie in Yliskylä. The bus can no longer run via Kuvernöörintie because access from Kuvernöörintie to Laajasalontie will be closed as the construction of Yliskylä center progresses. It is likely that the access from Kuvernöörintie will be closed before the tram services start running.

Bus 85 would run more frequently, i.e. every 15 minutes, during the daytime and on weekends. The bus would connect with light rail line 12 at the intersection of Laajasalontie and Koirasaarentie.

Route of bus 85: Herttoniemen Metro Station – Laajasalontie – Jollaksentie – Puuskaniementie

Service frequency at peak times / during the daytime / on Saturdays / on Sundays: 10/15/15/15 minutes.

Routes of bus 85 and light rail line 12 approximately in 2027. Between Herttoniemi and Jollas, the route of bus 85 would remain unchanged. The bus will no longer run via Kuvernöörintie.

Bus route 86: changes to the route and service frequency

The route of bus 86 would change. The bus would run from Herttoniemi to Santahamina via Reiherintie, replacing the withdrawn route 84. The route change would increase the journey time from Herttoniemi to Santahamina by 3 to 5 minutes.

In addition, in the future, the bus will go straight along Laajasalontie in Yliskylä. The bus can no longer run via Kuvernöörintie because access from Kuvernöörintie to Laajasalontie will be closed as the construction of Yliskylä center progresses. It is likely that the access from Kuvernöörintie will be closed before the tram services start running.

The bus would run more frequently, i.e. every 15 minutes, during the daytime and on weekends. The bus would connect with light rail line 12 on Koirasaarentie.

Change to the route of bus 86: Herttoniemi Metro Station – Laajasalontie – Koirasaarentie – Reiherintie – Laajasalontie – Santahamina

Service frequency at peak times / during the daytime / on Saturdays / on Sundays: 10/15/15/15 minutes.

Proposed route for bus 86 from Herttoniemi to Santahamina via Reiherintie and the route of light rail line 12 approximately in 2027. Bus 86 will no longer run via Kuvernöörintie.

New route 87

New route 87 would provide links from Kruunuvuorenranta and Gunillantie to Herttoniemi. The bus would replace bus 84 on Gunillantie. In addition, route 87 would provide links from Laajasalontie and Gunillantie to tram routes 11 and 12.

Service frequency at peak times / during the daytime / on Saturdays / on Sundays: 10/15/15/15 minutes.

Bus route 88: changes to the route and service frequency

The route and service frequency of bus 88 would change. The bus would run from Herttoniemi to Kaitalahti via Yliskylä and Kruunuvuorenranta. The bus would provide links from Yliskylä and Koirasaarentie to tram routes 11 and 12. Route 88B would be withdrawn. The most convenient way to access Herttoniemi would be by bus 87, Yliskylä by light rail 12.

Bus 88 would run less frequently: Monday to Friday at peak times every 20 minutes, during the daytime and on weekends every 30 minutes. The combined service frequency of routes 88 and 89 in Yliskylä would be 10 minutes Monday to Friday at peak times.

Change to the route of bus 88: Herttoniemi Metro Station – Yliskylä – Koirasaarentie – Kruunuvuorenranta – Kaitalahti.

Bus route 89: change to service frequency

The route of bus 89 would not change. Buses 88 and 89 would serve Yliskylä and their combined service frequency would be 10 minutes Monday to Friday at peak times, 15 minutes during the daytime and on weekends.

Service frequency of bus 89 at peak times / during the daytime / on Saturdays / on Sundays: 20/30/30/30 minutes.

Routes of buses 88 and 89, tram route 11 and light rail line 12 approximately in 2027. Between Herttoniemi and Yliskylä, the route of bus 89 would remain unchanged. The proposed new route of bus 88 would also serve Yliskylä.
