Park & Ride counts
Park & Ride counts are used to monitor the total number of Park & Ride spaces in the Helsinki region and their utilization rates. The counts cover both cars and bicycles. The results are used to develop the Park & Ride system in the region.
Park & Ride counts have been conducted in the capital region since 1996. Counts were carried out annually until 2007, and since then approximately every other year. Outside the capital region, these counts have been conducted systematically since 2007.
Municipalities in the capital region carry out counts at their own Park & Ride facilities, and outside the capital region, the counts are conducted by the municipality (previously also by VR). HSL compiles the results into a regional overview.
Park & Ride survey
Journeys involving Park & Ride are studied approximately every four years through a survey conducted at Park & Ride facilities. The most recent survey was carried out in autumn 2022.
The survey is conducted by placing invitations to an online questionnaire on cars and bicycles parked at Park & Ride facilities. Respondents are asked about the journey during which they received the survey invitation.
The survey covers a large share of the Park & Ride facilities located in the 15 municipalities of the Helsinki region. In addition, some Park & Ride facilities outside the region that are significant for regional transport are included.
The results are used to monitor the development of Park & Ride, to plan the location and capacity of Park & Ride facilities, and more broadly for the planning of public transport and the transport system as a whole.
