A year-round destination for the whole family

Korkeasaari is a zoo that is open year-round and a popular day-trip destination, located on its own island just east of Helsinki city center.

You can get to Korkeasaari by Metro, tram or bus. Soon, a tram will take you all the way to the zoo entrance. You can find more information about Korkeasaari and how to get there by bike or car on Korkeasaari’s website.

Direct tram services to the entrance from late 2026

Korkeasaari is expected to get its own tram stop in late 2026, when the rail connection between Hakaniemi and Laajasalo opens, and tram routes 11 and 12 begin operating. The new stop will be located right in front of the zoo entrance.

At the moment, the closest tram stop to Korkeasaari is “Nihti”, served by tram route 13. The stop is just a short walk from the zoo.

Buy a ticket to Korkeasaari

You can travel to Korkeasaari with any HSL ticket that includes zone A (AB, ABC, ABCD or ABCDE). For a journey between the city center and Korkeasaari, you need an AB ticket. An adult AB single ticket costs €3.30. The ticket is valid for 90 minutes. If you need a ticket for a longer duration, buy a day ticket.

Buy your ticket with contactless payment

You can buy a single ticket for your journey to Korkeasaari using contactless payment. Simply select the zones and tap your debit or credit card (Visa or Mastercard) on the reader. The ticket will be stored on your card. You can also pay with a mobile phone or a smartwatch that has contactless payment enabled.

Buy your single, day or season tickets easily using the HSL app. The app also provides up-to-date route and timetable information. Download the free app from AppStoreGooglePlay or AppGallery.

Buy your ticket from a ticket machine

You can also buy tickets from ticket machines available at major transport hubs. Use the sales point search to view their exact locations. The machines are marked with a ticket icon.

 

Buy your ticket at a sales point

HSL tickets are available at select grocery stores and kiosks (Alepa, R-kiosk, S-market and Prisma) as well as at the HSL service point in Tripla (Pasila railway station). Use the sales point search to view sales point contact details.

Please note:

Tickets for return journeys from Korkeasaari can only be purchased with contactless payment at card readers or with the HSL app. If you cannot use contactless payment or the HSL app, we recommend that you buy a day ticket before travelling to Korkeasaari.

One ticket for all modes of transport

Did you know that you can use all modes of transport with the same HSL ticket? For example, if you buy a day ticket, you can use it on HSL trams, commuter trains, the Metro, buses and ferries, as long as your ticket is valid when you board.

Which ticket do I need?

The HSL area is divided into five zones, labeled A, B, C, D and E, spreading outward from the center of Helsinki.

Korkeasaari and its nearest stops and stations are in zone A. For journeys between the city center and Korkesaari, you need an AB ticket regardless of the mode of transport.

Buy your ticket before entering the Metro payment area or boarding a bus, tram or commuter train.
